Re: Sherlock - BBC [4]
i am not saying people are born as criminals, i am saying some people are born (or perhaps develop) with a certain "ability", a factor, that they have a higher risk to become either violent, criminal or what the general public says is "psychopaths". lots of people struggle with empathy and other people, like people with asberger's or autism, and they struggle in different degrees, yet most of them doesn't end up as criminals. whether it is genetics or milieu that forms us is a very difficult question and i don't think it is one we will have an answer to any time soon.

I heard that guy on NPR I think, Norc. It was an interesting discussion, thanks for bringing it up.
Of course the whole discussion of sociopath/psychopath is largely a result of the modernizing of this story, at least as far as the self-awareness of symptoms that Sherlock possesses in the show.

And now there was nothing but the roofs of houses, sweeping along like a great torrent of stones and rocks. Chimney-pots fell, and tiles flew from the roofs..."

Re: Sherlock - BBC [4]
if anyone is bored but like.. miss sherlock or something, reading the blog http://www.johnwatsonblog.co.uk/ from bottom up (and comments) is actually really fun. did u know sherlock dressed up as a clown on one of the cases? here's the quote: I'm afraid I can't say anything else about the case other than it was probably the maddest adventure we ever had. I mean, Sherlock had to dress up as a clown! Mrs Hudson was pushed out of a helicopter! And me? Well, I had to do something I never thought I'd ever do.
and there are a lot more golden bits especially the comments

Re: Sherlock - BBC [4]
I finally got to see an episode of season 3: The Sign of Three. I was very disappointed.
It seems they forgot everything about good storytelling that made the first season stand out, in favor of rafts of self-indulgent little jokes. I guess they figured when they were writing it that the fan base was now so loyal to the characters that they no longer needed to write a suspenseful mystery; they just needed to put Sherlock and John on screen to keep people from changing the channel.
I guess they were right. I did see it out to its pointless end. I really enjoyed season 1 and 2, but I'm not sure I need to see any more of season 3.
What do you all think? Are there better episodes? Should I give them another chance?

Re: Sherlock - BBC [4]
The final episode is back on form, in my view its the only one up to the standard of the first two series (although in fairness I dont think either the middle episode in series one, or the Baskervilles one is are anything special either) but I am sure Norc would disagree.
But too watch the last one in series 3 you need to see the first two, as although it doesn't elevate them to good for me there are elements in them that are better when you've seen all three episodes and have a fuller picture.
They are not as pointless as they seem, or as I too first thought them on first viewing.

Re: Sherlock - BBC [4]
I agree Dave. I was very disappointed with episode one and two, I thought they were self indulgent and boring, they lacked much actual detection or what made Sherlock so great in seasons one and two, ie brain teazing who-dunnits. It was like watching a fanboy parody of Sherlock rather than the real thing. There were one or two nice bits, but overall disappointing. Even episode 3 is a bit of a yawn imo.

Re: Sherlock - BBC [4]
I agree with Dave too. Season 3 was disappointing and I feel quite indifferent to the next episodes. Though the last episode left some hope that they might return to making Sherlock and not cut and paste from people's fanfiction.

oh for goodness sake... they're gonna make Johnlock cannon, get over it
seriously though, i will get back to this, although i am not sure i'll convince any of u that series 3 was good, it wasn't as good as the two first, but i think the waiting period has something to do with it.
now i have to get back to history and Vikings and kings and blaaarhglgng --........

BBC One wrote:We can confirm that #Sherlock will return to BBC Onefor a Special, followed by a series of three new episodes.
After the briefest of exiles, Sherlock came back only to face one of his biggest mysteries yet. Why is Moriarty’s face being broadcast on every television in the land?
Shooting on the special will begin in January 2015, with the series shooting later next year.
The Game is on - again!
Re: Sherlock - BBC [4]
With any luck Who will finish its run just in time for Sherlock to start its.

Re: Sherlock - BBC [4]
Er, so it sounds like they're pretty much sticking to the same two-year pattern they've been in since series two. Except this time there will be a Christmas special the week before the new season airs. But that still means no new Sherlock for another year and a half.
Still, pretty coo to at least have some detailsl. Hope it's better than the third series.

Re: Sherlock - BBC [4]
- thoguhts on series 4 and in spoilers because i guess 90% of the time correctly:
i am guessing Mary dies in the x-mas special and/or that it will continue where sereis 3 ep. 3 cut off (since it's christmasy times) but i don't know what will come of the baby.. like, i am not sure Moftiss would kill it off. anyway, i am pretty sure Johnlock will become canon somewhere during season 4.. probably the last episode. killing of Mary is canon and it leaves Holmes and Watson back togehter again as this crime fighting team they have always been.
Re: Sherlock - BBC [4]
Im not sure about Mary-
- Spoiler:
- Watson is pretty much married throughout the books apart from the first few stories- granted its different wives, but they seem to have amalgamated at least two of his wives into Mary already in the last series.
If they are sticking more to the books in outline, as they have been, then Watson should remain married- to someone!

So the Christmas special will be Chirstmas 2015? or 2014?

- Spoiler:
- you might be right, but i still have a strong feeling that it's not just season 4 coming out, but Sherlock coming out
Christmas 2015 they begin shooting january next year and then the next season will probably air around new-year (as it was with season 3), that will be january 2016.
Re: Sherlock - BBC [4]
If they shoot in January they might do it the other way round, like they have with Who in the past and show the series first in autumn with the xmas special being the finale.

- I hope not!! Sherlock doesnt have room in his mind palace for sex!

Re: Sherlock - BBC [4]
yeah, perhaps .. that could make sense, but they're shooting the x-mas first and then the series later that year, so maybe not. also, the x-mas special is a stand-alone thing, so no real connection to the other series (other than the main character), like storyline-wise.
- Spoiler:
- i can see ur frustration, it's kinda dificult to imagine that aspect of it, but i think it is clear from the other episodes that sherlock and john are two men very much in love, they just don't know it yet (at least john).
Re: Sherlock - BBC [4]
- Spoiler:
- What's wrong with platonic male love between friends- used to be very popular in former times- where a man could tell another man he loved him without any other sexual or relationship connotations. Sherlock should be in love with nothing but his work- its what makes him Sherlock. This is a man who doesn't have room in his head for the knowledge the planet goes round the sun for goodness sake! He ain't wasting space on something as trivial as personal feelings
