I'm off work and it's raining outside, so I'm on a bit of a Sherlock binge.  

Halfway through The Final Problem now and holy heck, if I wanted to watch Saw there's dozens of those crappy movies to choose from...

This helped me feel better.

That's one of the best Hitler Reacts videos I've seen in a hot minute.

btw, what is the original movie? There's so many Hitler movies but that's the best of the lot.

Yeah, found it after some detective work. I'm gonna give it a go.

Yes it's a suitably grim film that, I think, does a great job of exploring the different facets of Hitler's personality and how those around him felt about him as Berlin began to fall. It's really well made.

{{ I listened to bits of that the other day but found the arguments rather poor.
Nothing against people not liking it, plenty episodes arent my favourites but the reasoning has to be solid for why if your going to slate something- and that guys just arent.
For example he takes issue with Scandal for including wider material and being part of an arc.
But the original story has more than a few issues for adapting- the main one being its really, really short.
And almost nothing happens- Holmes get a job, goes does some spying, works out where the photos are by observation, pulls a trick to get them- finds they are already gone and so is she - she wins, the end.
Even the Brett version which is totally authentic to the original story has to fill up the middle with a bit of added padding to get the story to fill a 50 minute run time its that short. Mofftat had double that running time to fill- there is simply no way to stretch that story over two hours without adding material. Then there is also the fact in the original Holmes an the Woman only share the page for one scene in the house and a very brief encounter at the Church when she gets married and he is witness (in disguise)- it would be hard in modern TV to set up your bad person when you almost never see them and your main character hardly interacts with them save at a distance. In the original story we also dont see her doing anything- almost everything she does is off screen- her final words are delivered via being read from a letter she leaves behind fore them. Again that is not going to work in a modern tv drama. And probably worse she is only doing it all so she can run off and marry some other guy instead and in todays pc tv landscape thats probably not going to cut it for motivation. None of which he addresses.
And for me the mystery of the passengers and the airplanes tuns out to be a more interesting case than the original which Moffat uses just as the set up for his version, which the original length is suited for. }}}

I noted a couple episodes of the Jeremey Brett version of Sherlock Holmes would be on tonight. And being half a bottle of wine in already I may as well settle in to watch them.

Well, I must say I don't agree with the general feeling on Brett versus Rathbone. Brett has too much the aura of Count Dracula for my tastes; even if Rathbone suffered inferior scripts further from the source material, he's still the definitive Holmes to me.

{{I like Rathbone but its not much like the book character- he is far too warm and friendly and personable and never strikes me as someone with a secret drug habit. Or the personality to develop one. Whereas Brett's version, yeah I get the addict bit from him, the sudden peaks of high energy and the long troughs of down.}}

i am still not over the butchered season 4 and how we never got johnlock and how they just teased us with queerbaiting.

Is johnlocking anything like cockblocking?

In Moffat's hands; yes.
