I'm as guilty as anyone of participating in fanboyism, and I don't think it's a bad thing, per se, though it can eventually get to be too much for me. But I don't think that gushing is always the best way to convince someone to see a movie, or read a book (or whatever) that you like. Although in the case of Pan's Labyrinth, I just didn't like it as much as a lot of people clearly do, and while my thoughts on the film (especially my initial ones) may have been framed more positively if my expectations had been lower, it wouldn't have been a favorite of mine even if I'd gone in completely blind.
Of course, it doesn't help that the entire stay at Beorn's was nothing but a relative breathe or two in the midst of a never-ending orc-chase. "Oh god the orcs are going to kill us.. but so may Beorn as well! And we have no choice for doom is upon us, Doom!!" doesn't exactly suggest idyllic and restful farmlands.
I think that's very true. The scenery looked nice, but the only thing about film!Beorn's house that stands out in my memory are those giant bees. I honestly think that PJ just threw Beorn in because he knew fans expected to see him, but didn't really have any ideas of what to do with the character. It all felt very perfunctory and uninspired, in addition to being rushed.
Re: DOS theatrical on DVD, Blu-ray, streaming
Well we know what Peter Jackson wanted to do with the character. He wanted to use him to highlight the importance of the film's villains. Azog the Bear-defiler holds a position highly exalted over the lowly and insignificant Beorn.

The thing that strikes me most about these 2 films is that I cant remember them, I cant remember how Beorns house and land looked. The landscapes of LOTR are etched on my brain, I remember every detail, but TH doesnt register, its like the music didnt register either, I have forgotten it all.

Please elaborate on, or remind me of, what these "planing" problems are.

I'm thinking he means lack there of. They planned for two films, ended up with three, and therefore just did things spur of the moment while filming. Nothing was thought out ahead of time, and if it was, it was changed at the last minute. That's what happens when you don't have a solid script, or outline, or anything. If you don't have a plan, then it will never feel right. I think that's a big part of PJ's problem. He doesn't want to be done. He keeps getting knew ideas and runs off with them, forsaking whatever plan he had originally. Then the audience gets PJ's brain vomit as a result.
So in conclusion, he has no restraint, which has been said time and time again.

"Azog the Bear-defiler"
Now THAT would be a film.
Gee Tin, I remember when you were such a proper and composed young queen, not given to such vivid displays of intellectual imagery. Then you went off to college, huh?

Yup! The words "proper" and "composed" are as foreign as the words "sobriety"

Maybe they're just a really big fan of '80s operating systems?
Re: DOS theatrical on DVD, Blu-ray, streaming
well you can be really picky and see the word "sublime" as "sub-lime" meaning less than a lime, therefore reinterpreting it as "unworthy of the lime light!"

Well, one definition of sublime is "Not to be excelled; supreme." So they might always have meant it in that fashion.

You mean the next movie can't help but be worse? I think it will excel DoS by being much worse.

Anyone else notice how nobody is excited for the Hobbit? I know a lot of people who have no interest in seeing it but who loved LOTR. I think everyone can tell that this project was milked out of a dry teat. tsk tsk.

"Someone" said something, no reason to quit.
If DoS received rave reviews, you could quit. But, as we all know, people are dumb.
