Re: DOS theatrical on DVD, Blu-ray, streaming
This is from a twitter Q and A with Richard
“There’s a much longer version of Mirkwood that we shot. Umm… there’s a really beautiful sequence where Bombur falls into the stream, the Enchanted Stream, and we have to carry him. And then also, Thorin and Bilbo see the white stag, which is this sort of manifestation of the Elf King, kind of projecting himself into the forest. And Thorin kind of symbolically tries to kill the stag with his crossbow. Which I…you know, that was really disappointing that that couldn’t be in the film because I do think, I think it’s like a little beacon of the relationship between Thorin and the Elf King.”

So they at least shot something a lot closer to the book- I wonder if it will see the light of day in the EE.

Re: DOS theatrical on DVD, Blu-ray, streaming
I hadn't heard about the stag before, but I'm pretty sure they've said that the enchanted stream will be in the EE. It would be nice for something to occur during the journey through Mirkwood. These films have been really terrible at conveying a sense of distance or travel.
Re: DOS theatrical on DVD, Blu-ray, streaming
Yes, and seeing the Lonely Mountain clearly from the Misty Mountains certainly doesn't help make the world feel large either.

I think what makes the world feel small is narrowing the scope of Bilbo's adventure to revolve around the Ring and to then add to the the Ring tension even more with the White Council sub-plot.

To be fair though, they traveled roughly as far as Frodo did and that only took one book instead of three, so the time is condensed. That being said, WHY IS IT STILL CONDENSED IN A F-ING FILM TRILOGY??? WASN'T THAT THE POINT OF EXTENDING IT? HUH PJ???

I was so embarrassed, and bored I snuck out way before it finished. Right after Smaug first talks to Bilbo and he is surfing the coins in search of the Arkenstone. Couldnt bear a second more of it. Thank goodnesss I missed the heroic wheelbarrow.

Avatar was just a bit too much James Cameron. the older he gets the more predictable he gets: his best stuff was early in his career.

Indeed It was.
Terminator 2 was the only video I ever actually came close to wearing out, must have seen it 40 or 50 times...

The real unfortunate thing is that I ever walked into it.

Re: DOS theatrical on DVD, Blu-ray, streaming
I have walked out of a lot of films. It really irritates Mr Figg. He is happily munching his popcorn when I gather my belongings and tell him I will meet him outside cos I cant take One More Second Of This Shite. Trouble is I have to wait in a desolate farty smelling front of house for ages and ages until he gets the message and lumbers out to follow me. But then it was Prince of Persia, Clash of the Titons, and The Hobbit.

Re: DOS theatrical on DVD, Blu-ray, streaming
The remake of Clash of the Titans really shouldn't have been as bad as it was, but I think like the Hobbit they spent all their thought on the sparkly technology and didn't bother with the characters.
