Re: 2013 Forumshire Film Awards
I havent seen Gravity & I dont think I want to, Ive got a terrible fear of being stranded, lost, flung helplessly into the abyss without being tied up,tied on or tied to, anyone or anything Id have the screaming ab-dabs in the cinema if I went to that,

Re: 2013 Forumshire Film Awards
The only film I've seen at the cinema since DOS was American Hustle, I was half drunk and rather tired so I can't really remember much.
Really wish I saw Gravity though it looks really good.

Re: 2013 Forumshire Film Awards
American Hustle was okay, I thought, but it felt like less than the sum of its parts. On the other hand, The Wolf of Wall Street was fantastic. I haven't seen a ton of recent movies, though.
Re: 2013 Forumshire Film Awards
the only way to see Gravity is at the cinema, its spectacular, no tv screen however large could do it justice. if it wins I hope they give it another run in the cinemas, but I dont know if they do that?

If it wins, I'm sure it will get another US theatrical run, and if they do I'll try to make a point of seeing it on your recommendation. But that doesn't help you much for a second viewing, does it? I'd guess it'll go straight to DVD in Europe...

Re: 2013 Forumshire Film Awards
I'm pretty sure there were more moments than these, such as LEGOLAS?!?! His entire character is a reference to Lord of the Rings, and the whole thing with Gimli? How about when Thorin says, "What say you?" I mean THERE"S JUST SO MUCH WOOOOOOOF WOOF WOOOF AWHOOOOOOOO!

Or when Thorin says "You witless worm!" Or when Balin says "Get your hands off me." to Bard. Oh, wait that's what he said in AUJ when they were captured by the goblins. Ok, so how about when Thorin says "What of it?" to Bard. Oh, hold up that's also a reference to AUJ when Thorin is talking to Elrond. Or how about the Morgul shaft? *snickers* Shaft.

Re: 2013 Forumshire Film Awards
Sorry for the delay everyone, I made a mistake giving Huan the results. I was angry. There, I said it. Happy Finrod? Anyway, I'm here to present the last two positive awards before I have to go back home and scrub the Buckie cellars with Tin's old hairbrush. So here we go
BEST NON CANON CHARACTER
Tauriel
Legolas
Alfrid
Azog
Bard's Family
Radagast
Sauron
And the winner is....
what? seriously? Another tie??? YOU PEOPLE!!! ERU HELP US IT'S A THREE WAY TIE! WHAT, DID YOU JUST REFUSE TO VOTE FOR A GOOD CHARACTER? YOU DID??? WHAT?!?!?
I'm sorry I'm sorry. Here are your winners
Tauriel (is she a feanorian? No? Ok good)
Radagast (wait, seriously? Bird Poop man? Even I'm shocked at that!)
Bard's Family
Interesting indeed! And the next positive award:
BEST LINE OF DIALOGUE
ok, so not everyone voted for this one, but the nominees are...
"If this is to end in fire, then we shall all burn together." Thorin
"I am fire. I am Death." Schmowg (te he, I mean Smaug)
"I found something in the Goblin tunnels... my courage" Bilbo Baggins
*Smaug Bilbo conversation*
And the winner is....
SMAUG stuff!! Both of them!
Well, now I'm off. Good Riddance Forumshire! I hope you all learn some decency while I'm gone!
{{{{{{{{I really should tell Thingol about this place, he most definitely would NOT approve. Maybe then Tin would leave and come back to Valinor! Well, one can hope...}}}}}}}}}}

So by not voting, I'm indirectly responsible for Radagast tying for best character.

Not yet; I'm taking the opportunity to (re)watch the entire Miyazaki canon (and catch up on the ones I haven't seen yet) before I go see this one. I am really looking forward to it, though, and also The Tale of Princess Kaguya, which I hope gets a theatrical release in the US
Re: 2013 Forumshire Film Awards
Hello my lovely subjects! I'm here to present the final awards of the evening. I apologize for the delay, but life called and I had to answer! So now I present the negative awards.
first:
WORST NON CANON CHARACTER
Tauriel
Legolas
Alfrid
Azog
Bard's Family
Radagast
Sauron
And the winner is...
even though he was barely in it... (Thank Eru)
I think we can all agree that he's just the worst addition period.
And now, the worst lines of dialogue. Like before, some people said all of them, but we do have a winner!
"You like killing things orc?" Tauriel
"Such is the nature of evil..." Thranduil
"We are legion" Azog
"If this is to end in fire, then we shall all burn together" Thorin (weird how this showed up in both)
"We don't have a jiffy" Dwalin (I remember physically smacking my forehead after this line.)
"I could have anything down my trousers" Kili
And the winner is...
ughhh. every line in that movie was cringe worthy, but that one was by far the most inappropriate and anachronistic!

Well I hope you all enjoyed the awards! I know they aren't anything like Petty's, but I did my best! So have a glass of celebratory Buckie and kick up your heals, watch an actual award show and remember that we still have one more film to watch. Then down an unhealthy amount of Buckie until you forget.

Re: 2013 Forumshire Film Awards
OMG Kevin Spacey. I just watched the finale of House of Cards S2 like an hour ago and I can only see Frank Underwood now (but his accent disappeared after a sentence ).
Re: 2013 Forumshire Film Awards
Two very appropriate "winners" to close out the night.
Thanks for all your hard work, Tin!

also, 20 seconds whatever away from fame something won best documentary? the act of killing should have gotten that, or square.. just show how little "controversial" the american audience dare to be, rather vote for a feelgood documentary rather than something that is well.. a little heavier.
also, i am sitting here thinking "damn i am fucking good at picking out what film music they're using as background/pause/get-of-the-fucking-stage-music"

When you do see it, I'll be interested in your review. I'm really looking forward to it too, but I doubt very much if it will show within 100 miles of me.
