Ok that doesnt look quite as bad as I expected it to.
The repeats of the sitcom on BBC2 still regularly get over 2 million viewers. Not bad for a 40 year old show.

Re: Future releases [2]
Hm... I want to go see a movie today, but I can't decide between MI5 (Mission Impossible 5 that is) or Mr. Holmes.
Holmes is further away, but MI5 is playing in my second-least-favourite theater.
But then The Gift sounds quite good too, except that the lead is just the worst.

Well I'm off to see MI5 then. Hopefully the corn will not be too overpowering!

Re: Future releases [2]
I can't muster up any enthusiasm for a Dad's Army reboot...I loved the TV series, but it was of a certain time and place in our culture, updating it just seems kinda wrong/desperate...great cast though!

If anything can save it its that cast- the very fact they are all involved in it makes me wonder, it may not be as bad an idea as it instantly seems, as otherwise, cast aside, my instincts about it being made at all are very much like your own Malick.

Aw yiss. A new Tarantino film is always an event for me. Really exciting to see Walton Goggins (Django) and Kurt Russell (Death Proof) show up again, especially Russell since he was great even though Death Proof on the whole wasn't so much (though it was still a good film).

As for the Hateful Eight...not a massive Tarantino fan, but Django was great...

Re: Future releases [2]
Out of curiosity Malick, have you seen Inglourious Basterds? Among Tarantino fans I know it has a somewhat split perception between those who thing it was a sign of Tarantino's decline and those who think it's the best thing ever. I'm more in the latter camp, so I recommend it to everyone I can, but I also think it has some stylistic similarities to Tarantino's more recent movies that are not necessarily shared in common with his older ones (the LA crime "trilogy" of Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Jackie Brown, though I think those are more consistent). Plus, Christoph Waltz in probably his best performance and one of the best handled uses of (multiple) foreign languages in a movie I've seen.
Re: Future releases [2]
Django was.. not my favourite.
But I do like me some Tarantino now and then!
As for Mission Impossible: Ghost Whatever Thing, it was great!
Simon Pegg simply cannot be resisted. He is universally likeable! The female lead and counterpart to Tom Cruise was played by Rebecca Ferguson. She actually has a nice subtlety to her acting that was quite enjoyable. I felt a little self-conscious with how the director chose to frame.. ahem.. certain shots of her, but she's gorgeous so I can hardly blame him!
And the rest of the cast was good, if a bit typecast.
But the real star of the film was the opera sequence. I shan't give anything away, but it's a beautiful scene. It has a funny set-up, an interesting premise, an engaging action sequence, incredible music. Truly a work of art.

Re: Future releases [2]
I've actually never seen any of the Mission: Impossible films, but I do really like the theme song! I'm pretty sure I first heard it when someone posted it in the old movie music thread on here, actually.
Personally I thought Django was in the lower half of Tarantino's filmography so far, but it's by no means his worst and even the one I do consider his worst (Death Proof) is still not a bad film by normal standards, though it's not really a normal film at all so it's hard to judge. Anyway, I'd like to see Django again sometime because I only ever saw it the once in theatres and multiple viewings have significantly altered my take on several of Tarantino's other films.

Yes I watched it very recently...I'm very much in the other camp to you , personally I thought it was overlong, disjointed, self indulgent and pretentious, Tarantino seemed so caught up in his own need to be 'hip' and include quotable dialogue, geeky references and in your face style he forgot to make an entertaining, well paced film in the process .
I could forgive his indulgences and overblown style if the film weren't, to be frank, so forgettable.
The Michael Myers cameo was rather odd as well
4/10
I loved Resevoir Dogs and True Romance, and liked Pulp Fiction alot (though again, self indulgent and overlong) but I'm just not really a big fan of his style of filmaking.

Re: Future releases [2]
Fair enough. I struggle to think of any Tarantino film that isn't self-indulgent and while that's not an issue for me, I can certainly understand why it is for others.

this looks like such a cool movie (i hope the video in the link works, couldn't find it on youtbe )

Looks pretty badass. And hey, is that Tormund Giantsbane?
I googled "Berkebeinerne" to try to find out a bit about the historical story. Looks like it'll be a chase movie? Maybe this is obvious if you can understand the dialogue.

Was that ad on the website for an infected moosebite?
Anyway, looks like it might be fun. I like how the one skier does a back-flip after getting hit with an arrow.
Although it strikes me as silly that it has to be yet another violent historical film.
It's not like anyone pre-1500 did anything but kill eachother off with hand-powered weapons anyway.

Re: Future releases [2]
I loved Teller's version of Macbeth at the Folger Shakespeare Library theatre in DC. I'm sure this movie will be a very different experience but I'm quite intrigued. It looks breathtaking in terms of visuals. I've been impressed by what I've seen of Marion Cotillard and especially Michael F. Assbender in other movies as well (TDKR notwithstanding).
Re: Future releases [2]
It's high time Macbeth received the blockbuster treatment. And it's always cool to see Marie Cotillard in something other than an art film.
