Small update on The Stand adaptation:
http://www.denofgeek.com/tv/the-stand/35685/the-stand-tv-prelude-rumoured-for-big-screen-adaptation
Personally I can't really see it working as a film, so I hope they go the miniseries route.

Hugh Jackman is stepping down as Wolverine:

Not surpised, but sad to see him hang up the Claws

Re: Future releases [2]
It's crazy that Jackman has been actively portraying Wolverine for 15 years. Certainly don't blame him for wanting to bring that chapter of his career to an end on his own terms.
It is perhaps the first instance of an interesting dilemma for superhero movies going forward, though. Stuff like the MCU and to some extent Fox's X-Men are betting big on the cinematic universe concept, which is bigger and longer-lasting than a traditional film series, but both are very much built on charismatic stars (primarily Downey and Jackman, respectively). Perhaps the biggest test of the success of the cinematic universe model will be to see if they can run indefinitely on their own brand once the big stars call it quits.

This I like when Im in the mood, an old fashioned ghost story
"woman in black" I liked as it was creepy, I get bored with Slasher movies, all blood & no substance. This is by GDT so Im hoping for not only fantasy but creepiness as well.

Not sure if any of the young people here grew up with the Goosebumps books or TV show. I did, and wasn't really aware of this, but looks like it could be fun.

Re: Future releases [2]
I had one creepy book about mermaids when I was 10 or so, but I didn't really read much horror writing growing up. I'm far more excited about the luverly Fassbender and Cottilard in Macbeth!
Needless to say, it would be quite appropriate to my mind if a certain Tennant got a role. It probably won't happen though.
I'm a little annoyed when the Hollywood machine kicks into drive in such an obvious way as when this bestseller, The Martian is rushed through production like this. It's unavoidable, like everything else in cinema, but mayhaps it will be good anyway. It's certainly more interesting seeing a movie like that after having just read about SpaceX and their boastful goals of terraforming Mars in the long term, but at least sending people there soonish in the shortish term.

Re: Future releases [2]
I just saw the imdb page for The Martian. No wonder it evokes the memory of Interstellar, considering that it has two of that film's central characters!
I saw Sean Bean on the cast list, and I almost laughed aloud thinking that his character was probably one of the crew that dies early on, resulting in yet another film in which the actor's character is killed off. unfortunately, my hopes were dashed according the plot of the book's wikipedia page. However, things are lost, or added, in adaptation. So we shall see.

In other news, I just saw that the 2016 production of Ghostbusters is underway.
Among the cast is Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig. Interesting.

Re: Future releases [2]
Hmm, seems more interested in being a comedy than kid's horror. Not that the TV show or books didn't have a campy tone now and then. Still this looks fun.
Although I specifically remember being scared shitless by the gnomes when that episode aired. These gnomes just look kind of silly.
Edit: for posterity.

I didn't like Jesse Eisenberg. Not convinced in his Lex Luthor.

Re: Future releases [2]
Yep, I like that also, but, what am I to get from that trailer ? that Superman has gone megalomaniac ? He seems depicted as the bad guy ? or is Batman wrongly accusing Superman ? I dont know ? Why do they hate each other so much ? Why is people bowing down to Superman not in respect but in fear ? Or is it that Batman has gone off the rails ?

Re: Future releases [2]
Yeah I definitely need to watch Man of Steel before this. The trailers for that were better than any BvS trailer yet but superhero fatigue and mixed word of mouth led me to not see it in theatres.
This seems to have potential but I think they're probably trying to cram too much in. And I've never cared much for the "cosmic" and goofy mythological elements in comics.

Re: Future releases [2]
Man of Steel had one of the coolest trailers I remember in recent years (OK it was actually just the LotR track that sold it for me) but the film is kind of just as bad as Half in the Bag makes it out to be.

Yeah, I remember Mike and Jay ripping it a new one, and then making fun of it in the trailer for Space Cop.

Re: Future releases [2]
I don't know, Eisenberg seemed fine in that role. His subdued delivery (although I assume he gets angry somewhere in the film) seems to suit a villain.
The new Batman suit looks rather bulky and less refined than the previous one.

I quite like the new suit- it makes him look, solid, sort of squatter and bulkier but more powerful.
Anyone seen the new Terminator film yet?
