The first UK appearance of the combat jet due to be used on Britain's new aircraft carriers has been cancelled.
It was hoped the F-35B Lightning IIs would be at the Royal International Air Tattoo in Fairford, Gloucestershire which, starts on Friday.
Organisers of the tattoo said in a statement: "Despite everyone's best endeavours, it has now been decided that the Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II will not fly at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) 2014 as all of the aircraft currently remain grounded."= BBC

Is that the airshow you are going to Lance?

'Retired judge Baroness Butler-Sloss has stepped down as head of a probe into child sex abuse saying she was "not the right person" for the job.
In a statement, Lady Butler-Sloss said she had been "honoured" to be asked to chair the inquiry and had hoped to "make a useful contribution".
But, she added: "It has become apparent over the last few days, however, that there is a widespread perception, particularly among victim and survivor groups, that I am not the right person to chair the inquiry.

"It has also become clear to me that I did not sufficiently consider whether my background and the fact my brother had been attorney general would cause difficulties.
"This is a victim-orientated inquiry and those who wish to be heard must have confidence that the members of the panel will pay proper regard to their concerns and give appropriate advice to government.
"Having listened to the concerns of victim and survivor groups and the criticisms of MPs and the media, I have come to the conclusion that I should not chair this inquiry and have so informed the Home Secretary."

Keith Vaz, chairman of the committee, which is also investigating historical child sex abuse, said the handling of the issue had been "somewhat shambolic"- BBC

Well finally the right decision- but what took so long? This was clear the day she was appointed that it was a mistake.  Mad

That's a cool word. I don't think we have it over here. Is it related to "shambles" like the messy, blood-drenched medieval meat markets?

I don't know where the word came from, but "flim-flam" has always felt very American to me. I think of depression era con-men like in "The Sting" and "Paper Moon".

Shambolic-

chaotic, disorganized, or mismanaged.

synonyms: chaotic, disorganized, muddled, confused, in (total) disarray, at sixes and sevens, unsystematic, haphazard, hit-or-miss, scrappy, fragmented, inefficient
"he accused the party headquarters of running a shambolic campaign"
antonyms: efficient, organized

Shambles is said to come from the 16th century meat markets trestle table legs, called in the trade shamble legs. From there it seems to have been used by people to mean a general mess of blood and gore, then just any sort of mess.

Shambolic is not a good word to have associated with your government decisions however!

I agree she has been treated shamefully- she should never have been put in this position in the first place.

She should never have even appointed with such an obvious conflict of interest- made even worse by the fact its quite clear the government were not even aware there was one until everyone pointed the bloody obvious out to them.

With her record of public service this debacle should not be her last public work, she deserves better than that. And the blame has to lie with those who appointed her without thinking it through, which given the sensitivity of the subject its unbelievable.
Its not like people didn't know who her brother was.

So what is Cameron up to?

Throwing everyone overboard before the election?
Acknowledging a large group of talented women who ought to be in the cabinet?
Or a PR stunt to fight accusations his cabinet is all white, middle class men?
And what to make of his Foreign Secretary choice- someone who has publicly stated they would consider voting to leave the EU?
And what happened with Grove- the education reforms were his baby and they are not finished and he's been moved to Chief Whip- thats a step down, certainly in pay. Cameron putting down a contender for his job?

Paedophile Jonathan King claims Jimmy Savile was INNOCENT and his victims were his 'accusers'

  • Jonathan King was jailed for seven years in 2001 for sexually abusing five teenage boys - he continues to protest his innocence
  • The 69-year-old pervert said predatory rapist Savile was an 'innocent man'
  • Appalling outburst came today in King's monthly column for Inside Time
  • He said Savile's victims should be referred to as 'accusers' because the pervert DJ never appeared in court
  • He wrote: 'The crimes never happened. At least miscarriages of justice in cases of murder have bodies to show that crimes did take place'

There was quite a lengthy claim from Mr King about Saville & himself in the Daily Mail. Should have realised then really that Jonathan King was not the only paedophile of the time ?

Um, ah...which woman exactly is under discussion here? It's important for our political education to have this carefully evaluated.
