Doctor Who [8] - Page 28 Empty Re: Doctor Who [8]

Post by Forest Shepherd Fri May 23, 2014 4:00 am

I had forgotten about 11 wearing it. But of course he used it in Hide, the "ghost" episode, wherein he travels back to early Earth.
How can you tell which episode this will be used in? Unless the source of the photos told you of course.

Unless I'm mistaken, Tennant as the Doctor was the first to wear such a suit. So I'm going to continue calling it Tennant's. Razz

By the by, I've had this inherent confusion in my mind concerning apostrophe usage and possessives. I looked it up and might remember for a while now before I forget again. You should have had "Tennant's" and "Doctor's" in there. I think it all started for me with the "Its vs. It's" rule way back when. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the new season! When does all that start airing?

That is a perfectly reasonable conclusion. Although why the heck the other members of his party would have their own suits on is beyond me.

Edit: The more I think about the more strongly I stand by calling it Tennant's suit. I mean, the episode it first appeared in was one of his best, full of speculative stuff about the origins of the universe. It's at the height of the Doctor-Rose series, and remains a quintessential example of Tennant's time as Doctor.
I understand the persona of the Doctor of course. That he is the same person. But dressing Capaldi in that suit is a reinforcement of the continuity of the show, not an indication of the newness of his Doctor. It's not a visually new thing. I'm fine with that of course, I like that continuity: it is a nice suit.
I'm just saying it's not new.

I often drop apostrophes when Im just posting casually. As I just did there in I'm. Especially when Im drunk ,which is always.  drunken

"Although why the heck the other members of his party would have their own suits on is beyond me."

I'd say he liked the colour and the durability so went back and got a load more from the same company, maybe a tip from Ford Prefect who lamented not getting more pairs of shoes as his favourite shoe shop was demolished along with earth by the vogons- always wise to get a few spares in just incase someone blows the planet up you buy them on.  Very Happy

It's the creation of an ice cream shop called Snugbury's, which does giant straw sculptures every year. And apparently it could have been a giant Royal Baby instead. According to the Chester Chronicle:
"This was the idea that was suggested most by customers, particularly with the anniversary in mind.
"The Royal baby was a contender too, but this was the most popular choice, and we thought it would look pretty cool too."
Snugbury's has been erecting its giant straw sculptures for more than 10 years, but this one is by far the most advanced yet.
It features two fully movable parts - the head and the gun - and also includes audio.

Some Who factoids-

I hadn't realised Amy had the most companion stories of any companion in the shows history- I would have put money on that being Jamie- but I guess its just because they are counting stories not episodes - Jamie is in War Games for example- 1 story, but took an entire series to tell.

Looks like the BBC are pushing the boat out for the new series of Doctor Who-

'Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are to embark on a World Tour, promoting the upcoming series of Doctor Who, which hits screens this August.

Fans in the UK will have a chance to see the couple at exclusive events in Cardiff and London on 7 August before they jet off, alongside showrunner Steven Moffat, visiting seven cities across five continents in 12 days to take part in a series of media and fan engagements

Peter Capaldi, speaking ahead of the tour, said:It’s fantastic that so many people across the world love Doctor Who. After eight months solid filming deep in the world of monsters, Jenna and I are thrilled to be heading for the Planet of Fans.

The tour marks the largest ever promotional undertaking in Doctor Who’s 50-year history and will take in Seoul (South Korea), Sydney (Australia) before hitting New York (US) on August 14. It continues to Mexico City (Mexico) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) where the tour ends on August 19th.'- Gallifrey Base
