Ah, I saw that. What do you think of it? I quite liked parts of it, but it always seemed a little too ambitious for it's own good to me.Pettytyrant101 wrote:

Haha. Great.
I can't think of many Who jokes, only this one actually:

Oh, and I found this amusing, the "time travel is possible bit":

Though I think you said you had seen that one before.

Re: Doctor Who [8]
Was reading an unrelated piece about Sherlock returning on BBC website, and was struck by how often people complain about Who's viewing figures, and cry that they are falling ect ect.
The last episode of Sherlock- the Reichenbach Fall- got 7.9 million viewers in the UK- about 1-2 million less than an average Who episode and 4 million less than watched Day of the Doctor which finished at 12.8 million
In that context it does make one wonder just what sort of viewing figures the naysayers expect?
And interestingly Moffat and Gattiss didnt seem to expect Sherlock to be big-
"Mark and I thought we had a very, very good show. I thought it would be a sort of posh art-housey hit and it would do three or four million," he said.

Re: Doctor Who [8]
They both stand as dramas in the BBC listings, at awards and most importantly for funding. The BBC moved Who out of childrens programming long, long ago.
Its just called a drama now- and its consistently the highest rated drama in the UK outside the two main soaps (and it beat Corrie head to head on xmas day). You can strop all you like Figg but Who's viewing figures arent just consistently good, they are consistently exceptional and lead the pack.
Any other show n UK tv would kill for Who's consistent figures over an eight year period.

Re: Doctor Who [8]
Who is the flagship BBC show though. And as Moffat said they never expected Sherlock to become as big as it did. It's a credit to it's fans that it did, because it's actually really good.
Also I think Who has probably done well from chasing the ratings less under Moffat, with less celebrity cameos and so on. Kylie Minouge ring a bell?

what the fuck are you talking about, strop? I dont give a rats arse about geekery like viewing figures or percentages, it just bores my pants off. All I mentioned was Dr Who is watched by more kids than Sherlock, its you who gets in a strop if you suspect anyone of attacking Who.

Re: Doctor Who [8]
You have in the past made the argument that Moffat Who has declining viewers over RTD era- this simply points out thats an erroneous impression you have- the opposite is true if you take global figures into account- and if you only look at UK figures its been exceptionally successful since NuWho began with no noticeable variations of worth across the entire 8 years.
Kids are a huge part of the Who thing, but they are not the whole story, especially these days, anything like the whole picture.
Which is why when Who competes for awards it doesnt do so in categories against whatever the modern equivalent of Grange Hill is but against Sherlock and Broadchurch and the like in the drama category.
I got the impression you were implying that because a portion of Who audience is children that somehow makes it less 'proper' drama than something like Sherlock with a predominately adult audience- I will leave Eccy to address that point-
"children are a more discerning audience than adults. You cant fool children. They know instantly if its not good enough and will just switch it off."

you made that up. I have never ONCE in all the time I have been here mentioned viewing figures. All that stuff is boring and it really doesnt float my boat, I dont know anything about viewing figures and I hope I never do, its getting into Trainspotter territory.

my point was *sigh* that there will simply be MORE people watching Who

More made up stuff. I really must insist you dont make wild assumptions about something you imagine I implied.

Re: Doctor Who [8]
You might not have mentioned viewing figures explicitly but we have crossed swords in the past over you heavily implying (or outright saying) Moffat era Who has declined in popualrity, which is just a way of talking about viewing without mentioning it.
