Yeah- I suspect two main reasons for the briefness of such footage- the BBC probably doesn't own them any more and has to pay (I think BBC Worldwide owns them now and yes that means the BBC have to pay them to use them) and secondly the 50th was shot in 3D and 3D effects have to be added -very tricky with 2D footage anything from 20- to 50 years old, and probably surprisingly expensive.

Although I like theory 3, I don't see any need to tie the two together, but what exactly did Moffat mean by using the posters with We can’t let information about the Doctor and the TARDIS fall into the wrong hands – the consequences could be disastrous?...I actually enjoyed the films (granted it's been years since I've seen them properly).

I think he meant it as favouring theory two- that Barbara and Ian sold their story to film makers after they got out, and UNIT had to put a stop to the films (the planned third film never got made) because 'letting information about the Doctor and the TARDIS fall into the wrong hands – the consequences could be disastrous?'
So it cant be on film.

A way to sort of bring the films into canon and at the same time keep them as something separate that happened in the real world, a blurring of the lines.

Since Petty once damn near accused me of being racist towards Scots because I don't like Amy Pond, so I am not sure I should comment on the 'fact' that being Scottish is an instant recipe for greatness.  tongue

"Doomed dialogue doesn’t half sound great in Scottish."
scratch Perhaps it sounds better with an Scottish accent. I'm looking forward to Clara saying "Um, what?" a lot if this is to be the kind of dialogue we're getting.

I dont recall accusing you of being racist Amarie.

Anyway in WHo news the 50th has been nominated for the BAFTA Craft Awards, its nominated in the Special, Visual and Graphic Effects category.

And the 50th docudrama, An Adventure in Space and Time as been nominated in the categories for Costume Design, Make Up and Hair Design and in Editing Fiction.

Good luck to them both.  Nod

'Actor and Script Writer Mark Gatiss has confirmed that he has been commissioned to write two new Doctor Who episodes, but has clarified that they will not necessarily both be in the upcoming series. '- Gallifrey Base

So at least 1 Gatiss episode. I have mixed feelings about his Who, I have only really rated three of them, the Dickens episode, Cold War and the Crimson Horror out of the six he has written- so only a 50% strike rate with me.

I am a bit worried myself after the weirdness that was the last three Sherlock eps... I really could use a good fix of Doctor Who.

Autumn seems a long way away  Mad

I have been re-watching series 5 on youtube, with commentary, the episode is show in a corner and he talks about as he watches,, though not so intrusively you cant still watch the episode.
But he watches them blind, with no knowledge of Who before he began so its quite interesting to see him stumble upon different things.
Almost all of 10's era is there too if you prefer that to Smith era (he is only up to Pandorica in it anyway).
But if you need a Who fix and dont have the episodes, its one way to watch them-

At least on a pedestal.

Not sure what gimpy means in the context of Who!  Shocked

For me its going through a second golden era, or maybe a third.
And I am very keen to see what direction it goes in with Capaldi in the role. Somewhere new, again, I imagine.

I am often surprised when I go back and listen to Murray Golds soundtrack how much they reveal the secrets of the plot, and still I've yet to catch one at the time.  Mad
This short piece you might recognise as being from the end of series 5- Amy and Rory's wedding.
Its called 'A River of Tears' and it features sections played backwards.
Now when that episode aired the viewer was unaware of several things, that River was Amy and Rory's daughter and that their wedding was also the day on which River was conceived.
Add to this that in terms of interactions with her parents River is moving backwards in the time line, each time she meets them she knows more about them and they are younger and know less about her.

You put that together and its not hard to see why this piece was used at their wedding, but it does beg the question how much does Moffat tell Murray about what is really going on in a scene, more than most it would seem, more than most of the actors certainly who were deliberately kept in the dark about it until they got the script where their character found out.

Well at least you are listening to Who! (Although some of the Amy and Rory music I find very beautiful and moving, its all tinged with poignancy and sadness).

You could always try watching some classic Who, some brilliant episodes there.

Doctor Who little known facts-

The line "A Judoon platoon on the moon" spoken by the 10th Doctor in the episode Smith and Jones (Martha's first episode) was written by RTD to wind up David Tennant, as it was almost impossible for him to say it without his Scottish accent coming out.  Very Happy

Personally I dont think it was the only time he was trying to wind up Tennant on that episode-

A perfect demonstration of how a bunch of blokes in pretty rubbish silver costumes still managed to traumatise a nations childhood- I wish they would bring this sort of cyberman back and not leave us stuck with RTD's 'delete' incarnations or Gaiman's Borg version.
I mean 'delete' and and a bit of blue lighting or crushing peoples hands to bloody pulps- which is scarier? The modern version is basically comic book, what made cybermen scary to me as a child is that if you met one it might just crush to a gooey mess, and that wouldn't be fun or quick, and seemed more believable than he would just zap you with lightning (And note the blood-something NUWho has always shied away from, wrongly in my view- children tend to pretty aware that they bleed when they scrape something, I dont understand the modern need to try to protect them from something they already know)

Who is up for 4 Hugo Awards this year.

'Doctor Who dominates the nominations for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form Programme in the 2014 Hugo Awards
Not only are the two episodes The Day of the Doctor and The Name if the Doctor nominated, but so is the docu-drama based on the origins of the show, An Adventure in Space and Time, and the spoof drama featuring Doctors number 5,6,7 and 8, The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot
Doctor Who’s head writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, said, 'For Doctor Who to receive three Hugo nominations in its anniversary year is completely thrilling. We are all over the moon. I’m particularly pleased about The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot as that was my acting debut. I remain available for any parts requiring a black jumper and slightly unrealistic hair.'- Gallifrey Base

Nominations Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form

An Adventure in Space and Time, written by Mark Gatiss, directed by Terry McDonough (BBC Television)

Doctor Who: “The Day of the Doctor”, written by Steven Moffat, directed by Nick Hurran (BBC Television)

Doctor Who: “The Name of the Doctor”, written by Steven Moffat, directed by Saul Metzstein (BBC Televison)

The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot, written & directed by Peter Davison (BBC Television)

Game of Thrones: “The Rains of Castamere”, written by David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, directed by David Nutter (HBO Entertainment in association with Bighead, Littlehead; Television 360; Startling Television and Generator Productions)

Orphan Black: “Variations under Domestication” written by Will Pascoe, directed by John Fawcett (Temple Street Productions; Space/BBC America)

I dont know Orphan Black but I expect Game of Thrones will offer some tough competition.
