Re: Critics review 'Desolation of Smaug' | POSSIBLE SPOILERS
If the guy is going to claim as part of his evidence Tolkiens Chronology then give this in his evidence-
"Smaug's assault on Erebor and his eviction of its residents directly sets in motion (by way of forcing the dwarves to seek a new homeland in orc-riddled Moria) The War of Dwarves and Orcs."
I dont need to read any further.

As I was editing DOS I thought of something I had missed before- in AUJ when Gandalf produces Thrain's key and he goes on to say that the map says there is a secret passage to the Lower Dungeons.
So why in DOS is it half way up the mountain?

Actually I linked to the 'wrong article' somehow... same author but in a different article he more compared Jackson's Hobbit to Jackson's The Lord of the Rings.
Must be more than one article at this site, but you folks probably have seen the 'other' one too then, I guess.
Sorry Eldo!

Oh yeah, found the other article: something like why Tolkien would be 'proud'. I won't link it, but that's the one I meant.
Ayway, I still think it's statuTe.

Interestingly, I glanced around at his other articles and he actually really disliked DOS.

Re: Critics review 'Desolation of Smaug' | POSSIBLE SPOILERS
wow those people who run TORn are very defensive. Theres this gushing vomit inducing staff review, and at the end people get to post an opinion. Even the slightest, mildest criticizm gets immediately jumped on, literally theres a staffer telling the poor poster to shut up and stop moaning for daring to state the obvious ie this is not the Hobbit, and then the yappers all pile in to ward off the interloper. pathetic.

I second your Eldo. I didn't expect that at least.
It's probably statue, now that I've had more time to think about it. Or statute. Stature is right out.

I don't recall seeing it myself, but there was a Lord of the Onion Rings promotion with Burger King back in 2001
{{{I don't think it was actually called that though.}}}
Ha! Good one, Eldo!
Hey, has anyone discussed Smaug vs. Balrog lately? We all know that Tolkien's Balrog would certainly defeat Tolkien's Smaug, but would Jackson's Balrog defeat Jackson's Smaug?
Re: Critics review 'Desolation of Smaug' | POSSIBLE SPOILERS
Nah, PJ would make a bloody spectacle of it much like the "Godzilla vs...." series, If, as Ive heard, that Smaug cant sizzle a handful of irritating Dwarves then defeating a Balrog isnt on the cards, unless he TALKS the Balrog to death ?

Would fire-breath even work against a creature composed of shadow and flame?

Yes, lots of talking. In the book, the dwarves were too afraid to even enter the mountain, which doesn't square with the All Action Peter Jackson approach.
How about if Smaug poured molten gold on the Balrog, just like in, um, Game Of Thrones! Yes! It was very effective.

Exactly! Peter Jackson didn't change that, I don't think. Unlike Ralph Bakshi, who gave us a creature of Shadow, Flame, Butterfly Wings, a Lion's Mane, and Fluffy Bedroom Slippers.

I must go there now and comment then cause I have fairly thick skin in that way, I don't care what azzholes think of me... I posted my same review there as I did here basically but I don't think I got one comment...

Turn left after the Barrow Downs, follow the Road for a mile or so, skip past dodgy looking fellows in black cloaks and Bree is up ahead. Avoid Hobbits with jewelry.
