I also don't have a tv, so as much as I wanted to watch the oscars that may not be a possibility. But I'd most likely do the film awards earlier in the day my time, like noon? I'm not sure what time that is everywhere else...

I'm not sure what time zone you're in anymore, Your Maj, but US Eastern is five hours behind GMT and most of our foreign members are in the GMT zone or one hour ahead.  Then there's the Australians who are pretty spread out themselves.

I'm eastern time now, so if I do it noon here then it would be 5 GMT?

That would be 9 AM here. I can live with that.

It's more silly than anything else. As long as you don't expect it to have too much to do with the Hobbit you'll be fine.

As a general point on this time zone thing, the thing that makes most practical sense is having stuff betwen 12:00 and 18:00 EST (17:00-23:00 GMT, 18:00-00:00 here.) As anything earlier makes it morning in America, and anything later makes it night here.

That it misses the Oscars that way too is just another good reason that it makes practical sense, no?

vinterferie!!  (aka. winter holidays). the reason we have it is basically because people tended to become sick this time of year, and free from school to go skiing was seen as something that would give good health. no kidding. we have a holiday that basically is about going skiing.
