But if you read the history, you'll see they were first invented for Victorian women. There's an opening in the back that buttons up, so you can sit down. Very useful for both sexes! Nod

fake edit:
here's one with that says how long it is in total, but it says the medium is 139 cm.. which doesn't really make sense to me... or maybe it does... (but i liked the first one i found, the buttons didn't go all the way to the crotch, i am guessing that's not comfortable)

Depending on the style, there's either a square flap that drops (called 'trapdoor' style) or a long vertical flap (like a fly in front) that goes from the lower part of your back all the way down. In the days of outdoor privies it was a luxury not to have to expose any more skin than what was absolutely necessary.

Wool and cotton used to be the two choices of material, and white or red the two choices of color.  Soft merino wool would be my first choice, but I bet you'd pay $200 dollars for that these days.

there's one with a vertical flap.. although, i think it'll prove difficult to pee with that Razz the flap sounds better..although colder, but jesus, that's never been a problem ..

I would've killed for a uniform with that function on winter excercises Laughing

The word "thermal" is important here though, because some of the new synthetic fabrics are designed to make you colder. I bought a pair of long underwear bottoms like this by accident.  Mad  Now I always check for the word "thermal".

I wouldn't buy wool online. I need to touch it first to know if I want it against my skin. There's so much garbage out there that calls itself wool....

Pendleton Woolen Mills is a few hours from here, and I stop in whenever I'm in the area to see what they have in the shop. The price is higher than Amazon, but the quality is excellent and they last for decades!

yes, but cotton is not thermal. wool is. preferably merino wool (softer). yes, touching it first is maybe a smart idea, but all wool itches.. sort of, but almost any wool that is meant to be on bare skin, is not itchy.

Pendleton Woolen Mills? do they have union suits there? do they have a webshop?

balls contract up and into the body if it is very cold. not dangerous at all. the same reason they drop when it is very hot. they need to breath, and they prefer to have it a bit chiller than 37 degrees.. and when very cold, they "hide".

why do i know this stuff scratch (cus this is a fact right, i think i have heard it somewhere.. it is when they refuse to come down for like several hours and when it's not cold anymore one should be worried)

Two thoughts:

1. Why can't they make dual layer stuff with the inner layer cotton and the outer layer wool? Would cost up the wazoo but likely worth it.

2. I keep seeing the term 'fake edit' bandied about. What's the difference between a fake edit and a real one?  scratch

A real edit is subject to copyright, whereas a fake edit can be quoted and redistributed as you see fit study

1. because the wool would have little to no effect if u have cotton nearest the skin. if u get sweaty u end up being wet and cold, if u get sweaty with wool nearest, u get wet, but u don't get cold. if u have invested in some really good sports-stuff (wool stuff made especially for trainign) they transport the sweat even better.

2. ask eldo, he invented it. i use it if i find something while i am writing a post, but don't feel the need to alter everything i just wrote.

I don't think I have anything to contribute to the general conversation.

I agree with David on the wool though. If it really scratches, it really scratches. And it's properly annoying.  Nod

Oh, I did have something to contribute.  Laughing

The cotton is good for wicking as long as there's evaporation, but there's nothing more miserable as soon as it gets saturated. Wet cotton against skin seems to me like a recipe for hypothermia.

When I'm offshore in a boat in the winter, where I know I'll be wet and cold, I forgo the cotton boxers and just wear wool or fleece against my skin. What do you Fjordlanders wear for undies in the deep cold, if I may ask?

the correct term i believe is itch, not scratch. u scratch when it itches. Nod

but merino wool and sports-wool (some polyester and some wool) isn't all that bad. when i was little i absolutely hated wearing wool, but i am ok with it now..
