Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [3] [SPOILERS]
One thing that surprised me with AUJ was how quiet it was-I literally saw it at the very first screening at my local on opening night (I wanted to get it over and done with, I wasn't eager to see it!), half empty.
I wonder if that will be the case this time around?

Couldn't you watch another movie?David H wrote:Me too. I saw AUJ midnight opening day, theater was packed, people dressed as elves and what-not. Everyone was having a lot of fun.malickfan wrote:One thing that surprised me with AUJ was how quiet it was-I literally saw it at the very first screening at my local on opening night (I wanted to get it over and done with, I wasn't eager to see it!), half empty.

Does anyone have a particular pre-showing ritual for Tolkien movies?- Forest

Closer?
I thought this one might work too. You look down at your popcorn for a moment... Then back at the screen to see the beginning of the fight scene between Thorin and Smaug...

If you are so inclined, you can watch the world premiere (the festivities, not the film) streaming starting in about four and a half hours.

I watched the premiere last year. If I find myself positively bored at 8:30pm, and a gun to my head, I'll consider watching it.

I'll watch the premier and keep everyone posted so you don't have to suffer through it. I've got nothing better to do and I want to catch Lee Pace on the Red Carpet

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [3] [SPOILERS]
Thanks Tin. I watched the premiere last year but I'm tired tonight and I have work early tomorrow morning so I don't feel like spending on my evening on this. Hopefully they'll post a highlights reel.
Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [3] [SPOILERS]
I couldn't wait that long. Not with spoilers floating around, anyway. I want to see and be able to talk about DOS as quick as possible. If I decide to go a second time, I'll definitely try to go when it's not as crowded though.Mrs Figg wrote:my ritual is waiting a week after it comes out, go to the cinema during the afternoon on a week day, and sit there alone in the peace and quiet. bliss
Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [3] [SPOILERS]
They're talking about how Manu Bennet looks different than Azog in real life. No shit.

Just showed some footage, but nothing new. Sean Astin is there, too! As is Ed Sheeran

"I'm not going to give too much away, but you [Manu Bennet as Azog] fight Ian McKellen."
Welp. Thanks for not giving it away, reporter dude.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [3] [SPOILERS]
"Why couldn't Samwise finagle himself into the movie?"
Cause he's not born? Fuck off.
"Well it's not over yet."
Don't do this to me Sean.
"I'm not in the last movie."
Thanks bro.
"I wanted to play Gaffer Gamgee."
That actually might have been cool. Maybe. It probably would have just been distracting though.
