Another nice fan vid- although some issues I found with sound levels- largely resolved, as with much of youtube sound issues, by plugging in some headphones-

Interview with Tom Baker (4th Doctor) from the BBC-

'With his long scarf and love of jelly babies, Baker's fourth Doctor remains one of the most instantly recognisable incarnations of the Time Lord. He is also the show's longest-serving star, having played the role from 1974 to 1981.
"I can't explain the show's longevity any more than I can explain my own," booms the 79-year-old actor when we meet in a private members' club in London's Covent Garden. "It's just a happy accident."
Baker admits he "wasn't at all happy" just before he was cast to replace Jon Pertwee in what is arguably British TV's most well-known role.
he was working as a labourer when he was cast in Doctor Who.

"I was going through a bad time of feeling rejected, even though I'd had a flirtation with movies. I was on a building site, having no skill there except to make the tea and use a drill," Baker recalls.
"So when the opportunity came to play Doctor Who, it was a jackpot."
Baker's co-workers on the building site found out the news by reading it in the Evening Standard.
"I went to work next morning - famous! They were so thrilled for me. I legged it down to Barclays Bank and got an advance and gave them a party. It was like being reborn."
Baker admits he had no idea how he was going to tackle his role as the new star of Doctor Who.
How did he find being the Doctor?
Baker beams. "It was a great experience. Actors want a big audience, and to be admired and to get applause is one thing, but to be adored is something I recommend."
He reminisces about visiting schools and hospitals, doing charity work and being flown round in helicopters.
"Everywhere I went I was waving like royalty and dishing out 50 pence pieces," he says.
It was so much better than real life. I stayed so long because real life at the time wasn't so terrific.
Being Doctor Who, I used to look at the clock and know at half past four we were going to stop rehearsing - and that was a sad moment for me because I wanted to stay in this beautiful, unreal world."

Asked if he has kept any Doctor Who props, Baker responds: "I had lots of bits and pieces but they've all been begged off me by the charities. It's all gone now."
"I have some interesting letters from fans who saw me as a messianic figure and thought I could do miracles."
He flashes one of his Doctor-like grins: "They were quite mistaken, but I didn't disabuse them."

In recent years he has reprised the role of the Doctor for a number of Big Finish audio adventures.
"I'm back now in the groove," Baker says. "The fans want to go back in time and I don't disappoint them because I haven't advanced at all from Doctor Who."
All these years on, the actor notes, Doctor Who fans can still be in awe of him.'- BBC

You OZhobbits are getting well served in this anniversary year-

'BBC Worldwide Australia & New Zealand have announced that a Doctor Who pop-up shop is coming to Richmond in Melbourne, with doors opening next Saturday 9th November.
Following the overwhelming popularity of the Sydney and Brisbane Doctor Who pop-up shops, where fans queued for more than two hours to get into the store, this special one-off Melbourne pop-up will feature some exclusive merchandise not currently available in Australian stores. On offer is the Who Home range boasting a selection of homewares, such as teapots and mugs, plus notebooks, tea towels and more.
A limited number of the special edition Tenth Doctor in tuxedo Titan figurines will also be on sale, along with the coveted silver collectible coin from the New Zealand Mint. The highly anticipated Tenth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver Remote Control will also be available in store. As will the popular range of toys, gifts, DVDs and books that Australian fans love. And as a special treat, fans can get up close to a TARDIS and a K-9.

The event takes place at Shop 2, 177 Bridge Road, Richmond, with doors opening at 9am.'- Gallifrey Base

'Author Neil Gaiman has been revealed as the final short story author of the Doctor Who stories.
The series is part of the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, with each short story being based on one of the 11 Doctors.
Nothing O'Clock will be published towards the end of this month as an e-book.
Gaiman's story focuses on actor Matt Smith's character as the most recent Doctor.
He also revealed he wanted to tell more of the Doctor's assistant Amy Pond, before she got married.

The 52-year-old author added: "Once I'd finished telling my story, in which I create an incredibly creepy Dr Who villain or possibly bunch of villains called The Kin, there was definitely part of me who went 'You know, wouldn't it be fun to put this on screen?'
"Wouldn't this be fun to see if I can actually make people wee themselves with terror in real life?"
Gaiman said that there is a part of him that "wishes" he could write an episode for the new Doctor, Peter Capaldi.
"Even though I managed to find time where there was no time at all, to write this story, I haven't been able to find time to write an actual Doctor Who episode. So I think that may have to wait a series or two."- BBC

(Bold added by me to annoy Mrs Figg Very Happy )

Its a shame there wont be a Gaiman episode in series 8 though, but here's looking forward to one in series 9.

Random thoughts:

Anyone else think Matt Smith could be the 13th doctor?

John hurt was confirmed as the
Spoiler:
, this would push Smith forward to 12, add in the meta crisis doctor, and the fact that Capaldi wasn't seen in the doctors timeline (The fall of the 11th sounds pretty final to me) it seems pretty clear to me it could be possible.

I mean there isn't really any better time than the 50th for something this big.

Another thought...perhaps Hurt could be become the Valeyard in some way-if Capaldi is 12 or 13 he is due, and Hurt's casting is too big an oppurtunity for just one episode.

Shrugging

Thoughts?

Well I'd rather it would be confusing enough to actually be intrigued by rather than simple enough to merely be entertained by.

I'm probably in the minority glad that every single doctor hasn't got a prominent role in the 50th (Paul Mcgann being the exception Sad )-it's one think celebrating a show's past, but a self congratulatory generic story wouldn't be as good as looking to the future imo.

It could be worse we could have had that Harry Potter idea by Davies.

And If I can actually bring myself to log off I've got Hartnell's 2nd season to watch...

I dont know if they will go for the Valeyard or not-

cons- its a classic series reference but from a series most people didnt like featuring a Doctor few enjoyed at the time.
- despite a few mentions in NuWho its never had any sort of explanation beyond a name check so would take a bit of reintroducing and setting up the concept.

pros- Moffat likes ties to classic Who. At least its already been name checked and as recently as The Doctor's Name.

Regards regens- at this point I am guessing that there is a difference for the Doctor between the amount of regen he has had and the amount of times he has been 'the Doctor'.
So it quite possible for 11 to still be the 11th Doctor, but the 12th regen.
