Re: Doctor Who [7]
I should have followed the news a bit closer I guess.
Then again, ambivalency seems to lead one to avoid spoilers.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/aaron-sagers/exclusive-tom-baker-to-ap_b_4295773.htmlAs far as how the Baker will figure into the story, the actor didn't say but did call the circumstances of his character's appearance in the special "extraordinary." "It worked out very well, I think, judging by the reactions of the technicians," he added. Whatever the rest of the details, the actor's return is monumental to the franchise. And it is apparent that Baker himself is happy to return. He calls the performance "the high spot" and "loveliest professional experience" of his life. And it was a role he says he actually embodied. "I identified very much with the character of the benevolent alien who wanted to heal the wounds of the silly people who couldn't get on together." "I was Doctor Who before I got it and I remained Doctor Who since I did it," said Tom Baker. "There wasn't much difference except apart from the miraculous aspect of being able to disappear and reappear, apart from the mechanical dog and beautiful assistants and Daleks -- it was very much like my life." wrote:

Full review later- right now all I will say is that I really enjoyed it, so much stuff for a fan- and it was typical Moffat slight of hand by giving you something you werent really expecting.

Re: Doctor Who [7]
Far as I can tell Malick
- Spoiler:
- with the Baker bit- its a future version of himself, that regened to look like an old favourite version of himself, but survived long enough to get old this time in that body, and then became a curator of that museum at UNIT in his retirement presumably (or he's still whizzing about saving the universe and is only pretending to his younger self that he is the curator- because rule one the Doctor lies).

Re: Doctor Who [7]
Well all that means Peter Capaldi is his 13th regen- the official limit! (Which they will of course write around, but will be fun finding out how)

Re: Doctor Who [7]
Malick; It was exactly what they said they wouldn't do. Though perhaps exactly what they said they wouldn't do was what was needed to give a tie in with the Classic series.
Also they had already given Davison a reapperance in the new series. Bakers importance for the show gaining it's apparent importance in peoples psyche in the 1970s should not be underestimated.

Re: Doctor Who [7]
Baker was the longest serving of the Doctors, most were the Doctor to one generation of kids, Baker was the Doctor to more so he is more peoples Doctor than any other.
And the show hit its highest heights in the UK- 10 million is a very good viewing figure in the UK these days (and is about the same number who watched the first series with Hartnell), City of Death, the Baker, Douglas Adams penned story got 16million.
Bakers Doctor was also the Doctor most screened on PBS in the US too and was hugely popular in Doctor Who's other traditional fan base- Australia.

Re: Doctor Who [7]
I didnt see Capaldi, where was he? I must have missed it.
Over all it was ok, quite enjoyed it. John Hurt and Rose were great. I thought the first Doctor was supposed to be in it? maybe I missed that too.

Re: Doctor Who [7]
I am so glad Moffat decided to reimagen the Time War though.
That was my least favourite part of the reimagened series.

Re: Doctor Who [7]
Im glad they've changed the Time War too Blue- its all part of Moffats master plan that began with the Cracks in Time to reset the show to classic series where it began so it can go on for the next 50

I must admit half of it felt like one of those Children in Need Christmas specials, and half of it felt like a proper episode.
