I do wonder if old!Bilbo and Frodo will show up again in DOS, or if their framing scenes will be limited to the first and last films of the trilogy.

-It was confirmed quite a few weeks back that Elijah Wood was pretty sure he wasn't going to be in DOS...THANK GOD.

Also, will this trailer result in a short-term return of optimism and PJ praise here like the last trailer did?

Since the last trailer seemed to be an outake from Indiana Jones Four, I'm not entirely sure where your optimism stemmed from. In my case I'm fairly certain it will result in me being seriously pissed off-I've got a new strategy for DOS, go in with no expectations treating it as a bad joke, that way I won't be dissapointed...

Gravity does indeed look awesome, but it does have the DOS trailer included, I wan't to be vomiting from Gravity's 3d, not rage at another overblown car crash of a trailer. Then Again PJ MAY surprise me (not necessarily in a good way). I hope there is no more glimpses of Smaug, but I wouldn't mind teaser's of Dain or The Necromancer...

Eldo I still haven't watched the last Production Blog, though I really enoyed the previous ones (perhaps more so than AUJ) I'm almost past the point of caring, the more I hear about Jackson's plans for DOS an TABA the more I feel inclined to only view the films simply becuase I feel I have to as a Tolkien fan. I'm not that fussed at the moment in seeing a self congratuly behind the scenes glimpse of TABA, when it would likely give me false hope and angry mood.

What is a 'Bilbo' This is the Thoreeeen Oakenblossom Hair trilogy.

at this stage in the game I am just pretending DOS has been made by the same people who made Snow White (the one with Julia Roberts) that way my expectations are rock bottom and anything remotely Tolkien will be a nice surprise and mean I wont feel like walking out the cinema and demanding my cash back.

I'm actually kinda glad the films are so far removed from the book, that way I hope new readers will be less likely to compare a 'boy's own fairytale' written on a whim in the 30's to a violent over the top action blockbuster.

The more Jackson and Co try to link the hobbit in with LOTR, the more I see them desecrating Tolkien's spirit.

And I'm not going to lie I'd happily let Jackson completely screw up The Hobbit if it ensured he and Boyens could NEVER get there money hungry claws on The Silmarilion.

Let's not degrade the dignity of this forum by mentioning anything with Kristen Stewart in it. Though, I guess it should be mentioned that Lee Pace was in a twilight film and Howard Shore scored one of them.

Is that why people like Lee Pace? I still can't figure out what he's done to get a fandom other than just being good-looking. At least Armitage's fame makes sense since he's starred in a bunch of TV shows.

No, he's famous from the show "Pushing Daisies" that aired in 2007 I think. Cute show, really quirky though. He got nominated (and might have won?) an Emmy for the his role in the show!


That being said, Twilight definitely gave him a new fan following I think. I think PJ saw him in the movie "The Fall" and liked him.

Actually I have heard of The Fall, I just forgot he was in that. It's on my shortlist of movies from the 2000s that I really need to see.

Lee Pace has been in some really good stuff the Fall was great, he's done a bunch of TV stuff, and a few indie movies. As well as the twilight stuff which I refuse to watch. The first one made me 30% gayer as I jokingly tell my wife.

As far as PJ optimism I can't remember the last time I had that OR was thrilled to see one of his movies. Oh that's right I was thrilled with the Hobbit right up until I actually saw AUJ then I cried for a week and have been burning the film and Jackson on the cross ever since.

I remember that vlog, it was one of the better ones so far. I watched it again just now and PJ mentions that they were planning on another vlog for the end of pick-up shooting. He'd better deliver something before DOS comes out or I'll be very disappointed.

I really don't think he is as concerned about the Vlogs or production diaries as much as he was before AUJ came out. We have had what 1 or 2 Vlogs for DOS? Honestly I think they don't care as much about doing them as most of the fanboys think. They never did answer the promised 20 questions on Facebook like Jackson said he would answer. Or Jackson promised another Vlog at the end of pick ups which we haven't seen.

I know people would use the excuse that Jackson is busy editing DOS to do one, but the film crew who shot them is done by someone else if I remember correctly. I know Jackson likes to personally over see stuff but his involvement would be what? A couple hours to get 10 minutes of footage for fans. I just don't think they are a priority for him anymore, for general movie fans they don't really mean anything. And the diehards like to dissect them. So what is the advantage for Peter Jackson to really care about releasing any more in a regular pattern. If he does one he does if not i really don't think it matters to him.

I've been almost nothing BUT disappointed with Jackson since the release of AUJ

This got me thinking. For the theatrical DVD release of AUJ they had the 10 vlogs as the main "special feature" (not very special as they had all been released online). So what are they going to do for DOS? They have the live-stream event (which would be a lame thing to include because technically it was a special feature for the AUJ release), and they have one vlog. So basically there could be nil special features on the DOS theatrical DVD?

Good point. I hadn't thought about that myself. I suppose it's possible they could just release the DVD with very little in the way of special features, since my understanding is that a lot of movies are released with less bonus material these days than was the case ten years ago. But they might also throw together some stuff like they did with the LOTR theatrical editions.

Either way, I'm sure they know that the fans (who are probably the only ones who watch the special features) consider the EE documentaries to be the main attraction, and word is that AUJ-EE (and presumably the sequels) will include "Appendices" in the style of the LOTR-EEs.

all this marketing stuff really gets me riled up. I cant stand all this money grabbing fluffy crap they come out with. The EE of AUL is only 15 freakin minutes longer. and they expect folk to part with their cash during these hard financial times. it makes me really angry.
