The Road is brilliant, I highly recommend it.

That scene was great on many levels, not just because of naked Viggo.
Actually the whole film was great except for the really abrupt ending.
Re: Seen any good films lately?
NSFW.
But really, watch the whole film (and also A History of Violence).

Re: Seen any good films lately?
what did you think of the ending to History of Violence. I think Eastern Promises was trying for something like that but missed

Re: Seen any good films lately?
I was ambivalent towards the ending of A History of Violence at first, but the more I thought about it the more I liked it. I think any other ending that involves his family would have felt forced after everything that happened, but I did like that he went back to his house in the end.
The very last shots of Eastern Promises with Viggo sitting in the restaurant after becoming the boss were pretty good, but I didn't find the climax of the film to be nearly as interesting as A History of Violence's, nor did it seem to represent as much of a change for the characters. Which was a shame because until the third act I thought the film was at least as good as its predecessor.

Re: Seen any good films lately?
One thing I thought interesting about EP was that, according to the documentary features, the film was originally conceived as a drama about human trafficking and prostitution. Obviously those were important plot elements, but I didn't feel that the sex trade was really front and center in the story. It seemed to be very much Viggo's and Naomi Watt's story to me.
Re: Seen any good films lately?
i haven't seen the movie, i think i have to now, but that fight scene was brilliant. i mean, it's what a fight really is, brutal, naked (not literally, but i mean that the main character actually get hurt) and gruseome. no fancy stuff to make it look cool, it just looks ugly, because that's what it is.
Re: Seen any good films lately?
Yeah, the fight scenes in A History of Violence and Eastern Promises are really well done, but can be disturbing.
Re: Seen any good films lately?
Well, personally, I've got no problem with entertaining over-the-top fights, especially if they involve swords (think The Princess Bride or Pirates of the Caribbean) or even just your standard sanitized movie combat. But it is nice to see something more realistic and heavy from time to time.
