I saw MIB3 last year and I too was surprised to actually enjoy it quite a bit. Light-years ahead of MIIB. Thumbs Up

well, not global warming. KFK gasses destroyes the ozon layer(and will remain in the atmosphere for like 30 years so..) , but they don't have anything to do with global warming. Very Happy

Erm, it is two different things... Why would the earth get warmer when the layergetsthinner? The ozon layer getting thinnerhas nothing todo with global warming .

I think ozone is considered one of the greenhouse gases. It's certainly blocking a lot of the UV radiation that would otherwise be hitting the earth's surface. We should ask Halfy though. Where is he anyway?

aaaaargh!! nooooo!!! the ozon only prtects against radiation! a thicker ozon layer would trap in more sunlight/UV etc etc. a thinner one caused by KFK gasses (hairspray) only lets in dangerous amount of radiation, dangerous stuff from the sun that makes u get skin cancer. and the layer is thinner around the poles. the ozon layer is at  18-50 km above the earth, which means that is where the concentration of ozon is highest.

when the ozon (which is three oxygens) is broken by KFK gasses it happens like this the K (clorine or whatever Cl) reacts and brakes it up making only oxygen like this
Cl + O3 → ClO + O2
ClO + O3 → Cl + 2 O2

Oh and Norc, ozone contributes between 3 to 7% of greenhouse gas warming. why the inexact 3-7% ? Because nobody can stinkin' think straight after Figgy posted her little thang.

Or maybe it's a more complicated thing having to do with overlapping effects and which gas you calculate first. But I'd rather blame it on Figgy's Friggin' Foto. Crikes.

Greenhouse gas allows sunlight in, but absorbs infrared thermally emitted by the earth, then warms the earth back up by re-emitting part of it back towards the earth.

So thinning ozone would let more UV in (warming the earth and causing skin damage), but let more IR out (cooling the earth). On balance increasing ozone warms more than it cools.

Or at least I think so. scratch  Actually I'm not sure of anything anymore, except that I'm wondering if Figgy would like someone to carry her books home. Embarassed

Oh it's not the hair so much Embarassed ....in fact I learned early on that with that much hair spray the hair's no fun to run your fingers through plus the woman in question gets mighty crotchety when you attempt it.  It's just the whole look and the um...err....do you, like, you know...need anyone to carry your books home? drunken

But the base structure has to be there. Like good coffee is still there despite all the cream and sugar.

yes, true halfwise, but the hairspray from the 80s makes the ozone layer thinner, not thicker, and has therefore nothing to do with global warming. it's a whole nother dangerous issue.

it seems you're under the impression that there is ozon gas in the hairspray bottles, it is not. more ozon would warm the earth yes, but also protect us against dangerous radiation from the sun. the hairspray bottles let out a gas that brakes down the  ozon layer and therefore letting more dangerous radioation in. without the ozon layer we wouldn't have a living thing on earth. increasing ozon warms yes, but that's not what is happening. the ozone layer is building up now after the 80, but it's going to take several years. what humans did was destroying it. i am sticking to what i said. The thinning of the ozon layer and hairsprays has nothing to do with global warming.
