The Purge's marketing has been annoying me because it's fucking everywhere on YouTube and Cracked.

Still gutted that Norc stole my thunder there. It would have been the funniest of all my jokes.

We were all waiting to say that, but the damn Fjordians went and got to see The Hobbit before the rest of us.
Re: Seen any good films lately?
watched Skyfall, I liked it, it seemed like an old fashioned Sean Connery Bond updated, dont know why , it seemed to go back to basics, less spectacular but more character stuff, very good.

I wish Skyfall could have decided if it wanted to be an "old and creaky Bond goes out for one last hurrah" movie or a "new Bond finally gets into his routine and becomes the badass everyone remembers from the Connery era" movie. It tried to be both and felt confused and nonsensical to me as a result.

Re: Seen any good films lately?
I didnt get the last hurrah thing because Craig is so obviously a man in his prime, all that old dog stuff didnt sit right. I got the impression he was just weary and wounded and out of condition because he had gone on a massive boozefest in Goa. I also got the impression he just couldnt be arsed until he saw the threat to M.

Re: Seen any good films lately?
So I just watched M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender for the first time since seeing it in theatres on opening weekend. I remember talking about it excitedly with people on the old forum, but feeling worried when the terrible reviews came in, and even more so when Tin reported back that it sucked. But I held out hope that it would be a cool martial arts movie like it appeared in the trailers up until the opening minutes of the film.
Watching it tonight brought back all the memories. The terribad opening crawl/narration duo. The first time we heard the film's pronunciation of the words "Ahvatar" and "Soaka". The endless voiceovers. The bizarrely disjointed nature of the film. The motherfucking pebble dance. It all seemed funnier and less painful now than it did the first time around, but it's still one of the worst mainstream studio movies I've ever seen (as opposed to self-produced "masterpieces" like The Room or Birdemic, which transcend incompetence to achieve a sort of serendipitous grace through sucking so hard).

Re: Seen any good films lately?
I think Shyamalan is generally way overrated, without trying to I have somehow managed to see all but three of his films (Airbender being one of the three) and of those I thought only two of them were any good- Lady in the Water- easily my favourite of his films and one I recommend, and Unbreakable, which entertained.
I certainly couldnt recommend any of the rest. I nearly always find his 'big twists' to be really obvious (Sixth Sense) or unconvincing in the extreme (the village, the happening).

Re: Seen any good films lately?
I don't think I've ever seen someone rank Lady in the Water over Unbreakable before.
I haven't seen The Happening myself (and don't have any desire to), but as far as I can tell the consensus is that TLA is even worse. There's no twist since the film is an adaptation, but practically every scene and every emotion the film attempts to elicit either falls flat or is downright hilarious.
