I think Pixar are coasting a bit on past success. All the characters are starting to look a bit homogenous.

Usually a reboot is just a lazy way of raking in cash off an old name- but got to admit the Robocop reboot is starting to get my attention.
Got to hope its a hell of a lot better than the disatrous Star Trek reboot.

Saw 'The Amazing Spider-Man’ today, sorry Tony but Garfield is by far my favourite! Gorgeous visuals and a moderately interesting new back-story, pretty good stuff in all!

I saw Amazing Spider-Man as well. While the effects were nice, thats really all it had over Spider-Man 1-3, better visuals. Overall I have to say the Tobey Maguire Spider-Mans are much better.

I still think the Star Trek reboot was excellent, I watched it again and enjoyed every moment, the chemistry between Spock and Kirk was spot on, Carl Urban was great too as Bones. really fab film, cant wait to see the new one.

What about the fact not one line of the so-called plot makes the slightest bit of sense?

The truth will out Mrs Figg.
Or perhaps you would like to try to explain the plot of the film- there's a challenge for you. It doesn't so much have plot holes as just holes and no plot.

Smarty alec gifs are no substitute for debate Mrs Figgs! So I shall assume you are in fact conceding that the film has no plot worth the name, an atrocious senseless, pointless bad guy and the worst Scotty ever conceived. Nod And thats only the start of its problems. It is NOT star Trek- its Star Wars with Star Trek ships.

That's why it's more entertaining than "real" Trek! Very Happy

I really liked Star Trek '09 when I saw it in theatres. I randomly caught part of the film on cable recently and I still really enjoyed it. Yes, I know that the plot makes no sense. It's still entertaining as a popcorn blockbuster. Not on the level of the Star Wars Original Trilogy though, in part due to the plot problems.

Thats the spirit- even though you're wrong. Wink
So where to start? Black holes as time holes? Or perhaps a mining vessel armed to the teeth and ginarmous. Or all its crew happy to sit about in space for 70 odd years waiting on Spock- or them all being happy to go along with a plan for multiple genocide?
Or why no one on vulcan just shot the chain holding the drill?- or even strapped a pair of wire cutters to the nose of a ship and snipped it? Or why the Vulcan Planetary Council in times of crisis responds bygoing to stand in a cave for a bit where they have no way of knowing whats going on?
Why, if one drop of red matter makes a black hole, do they give Spock a vat containing litres and litres of the stuff? And why when it all gets dispersed at the end does is still only make one black hole?
And dont get me started on how a bunch of cadets appear to end up in charge of a military operation. Evil or Very Mad

Damn you Mrs Figg! Evil or Very Mad You responded as I was crabbit ranting- and I've bloddy well ranted now so I'm leaving it, so there! Mad

Star Trek should not be just popcorn, thats kinda of the problem if your a fan of the original. It doesn't entertain me because its such a devatiation from the intententions of the original.
But I can see why it was entertaining to many who dont care for the original's sensibilities. And yes Urban is an excellent Mccoy- I wish he was being given some material with occasional weight thats all.

I'm not going to be ashamed of not minding changes from the source material when I have no connection to the source material. I won't make fun of people who do care either, though, since I can totally understand where they're coming from. I yawned all the way through The Wrath of Khan, though, which probably invalidates my opinion to Trek loyalists. Razz

gifs make excellent arguments. Though I am not gonna give a rats ass that you dear Petty is being crabbit all the time and just cheer away for the fact that I've converted Mrs Figg here into the "I-comunicate-through-Sherlock-gifs"-religion.

Petty has no one but himself to blame for that since he converted so many people to the cult of Sherlock. Very Happy Not that I'm complaining, since I likely wouldn't have watched the show without his recommendation. Smile

I'd just assumed since you started posting about Sherlock around the time Petty was gathering converts. Wink My mistake, then. It was a happy coincidence that Norwegian TV was showing both seasons of Sherlock when they did though. Very Happy

I'm afraid that's not a fair test for a Star Trek purist, Petty. The original series won't stand for it.

From people turning invisible by being someway "hyper-accelerated" [Wink of an Eye season 3] but with not one word of explanation of the different passage of time, all of the time-travel and alternate-universe paradoxes with clumsy patches or no patches, all of the episodes where Kirk out-reasons super-computers with simple paradoxes or super-intelligences with unpredictable emotions Suspect......There's hardly an episode that will stand close scrutiny. (I still love them though Wink )

I was expecting to hate the reboot. It just seemed like a horrible idea. But they surprised me. I ended up liking it a lot despite (or maybe because of) some inconsistencies in the logic. It felt like seeing my old friends again!
