it was okay in a spectacle sort of way. Got to see some Wilde skin, but not as much as hoped. Worth the time spent.

Re: Seen any good films lately?
Looks like the sort of film I'd watch if the tv remote was to far away but thats about it.
Been watching a lot of Shakespeare of late- here's my pick of the best versions of my favourite plays.
Hamlet
David Tennant as Hamlet, Patrick Stewart as Claudius.
Henry V
Kenneth Brannagh's version in which he adapted it, starred in it and directed it.
Macbeth
Patrick Stewart in the lead role. But its Kate Fleetwood's Lady Macbeth steals the show for me.
Richard III
Co-written by and starring Ian Mckellan in the tilte role.
King Lear
Sir Ian Mckellan again in the tilte role. Here he i slooking like a distressed Gandalf the White with Sylvester Mccoy alongside him.
Much Ado About Nothing
A funny Shakesepeare romantic comedy- no really. Kenneth Brannagh again. And Keannu Reeves doing Shakespeare- don't get that everywhere!
The Merchant of Venice
Al Pacino as the put upon Jew in a suprising performance.

Re: Seen any good films lately?
its not Shakespeare but based on a Christopher Marlowe play, Edward 11 by Derek Jarman is pretty good.
I love Pacino as Shylock, his 'do we not bleed' speech was incredibly powerful.

Seeing Sherlock's everywhere Norc? Not a good sign.
Mckellan's Richard III is a particular delight- charming yet a complete bastard.

Re: Seen any good films lately?
I've liked all of Kenneth Brannagh's adaptations to film. They're a good way for people who are put off by theatre to get their feet wet. (I did find Michael Keaton's bit in Much Ado a bit jarring though.)

Re: Seen any good films lately?
I really like Much Ado David, but there are some, odd performances in it, Keatons being the most extreme- and Keanu till can't act but Brannagh rather geniusly cast him as someone who shows almost new emotion so works fine.
I was close to picking Brannaghs Hamlet over Tennant's- its certainly more lavish but its also completely unabridged so about 4 hours long which I though might be offputting- its only worth seeing too in its original aspect ration which is massive, so best seen it on a very big cinema screen, on a lcd or plasma its very letterboxed and not such a good substitute. And most versions available are in fact cropped to mak it fit 16:9.
I have still to see his production of Othello- it's next on my list- anyone know if its any good?
Polanski's Macbeth was also a close second to the Patrick Stewart version - I like its in period and its shot on location rather than all in a studio- but Lady Macbeth swung it for me.
Norc you should never mix your Sherlocks and Shylocks or you might end up shouting the 'games afoot' and being given a pound of flesh!

Well let that be a warning to you young Norc to pay attention, lest your eagerness for Cumberbums leaves you with a pound of flesh in your hand and no idea what to do with it!

Re: Seen any good films lately?
I just saw "The Amazing Spiderman" last night, and it really was amazing! Andrew Garfield is a fantastic actor! Everything he did seemed so organic and natural that the whole super hero part of it seemed more realistic. If anyone else had played him (ie: Tobey Maguire), it would have not been as good.

Re: Seen any good films lately?
I heard he puts in a great performance Tinuviel- glad to hear just because of all the automatic stick he took for not being an American when he landed the role. Good to see him making people eat their words.
Norc- well you are Fjordian, probably wrap it in herring or something.

Re: Seen any good films lately?
Yes but after what he said about my Ma - well after that I didn't have to go back once I told her what he had said- not sure they ever found all the bits afterwards...

Re: Seen any good films lately?
I didn't really like Brave all that much. I was expecting more from Pixar, but it just kind of fell flat for me. Apart from the outstanding animation and the music and the accents, it was pretty average. though I was reminded of Petty at one part, when a certain gentleman lifted his kilt

It seems to have done well enough at the boxoffice but I have heard a few folks saying similar to you Tin. Shame. Does it have copious amounts of buckie drinking?- if not there's the problem!
