Re: Tales of Home [3]
btw. i think if tolkien wanted to use the gutural R, he'd use it for Mordor-speech, since it is a rather harsh sound, ecpecially the german one, maybe not the soft french one, but not elvish, that's for sure. that's a rolling R
Re: Tales of Home [3]
Sometimes I am reminded of how lucky I am to live in Norway. I was looking at the northern lights tonight, almost enchanted by them I was. This country is beautiful in summer, if I may say so, especially up north around May, when the snow melts in the mountains and the water comes streaming down like waterfalls into the fjords, and everything is green. And where I come from too, further south, the summer and spring are marvellous times of the year. But as I stood watching the northern lights tonight I thought that the winter is the most magical time of the year.
It wasn't as dramatic as in the vids tonight, but it's only autumn yet. I'm definitely going up north sometime in the winter just for this
Random patriotic post of the week, good night

I have some very fond memories of laying on my back in a ballfield on a hill above a village in Alaska (next to a young lady ) watching the sky do that. It's magic!

Alaska is one of the places I really want to go to, it's so vast and epic. Though I think if I ever go it'll be in the summer

Re: Tales of Home [3]
I spent a week in Alaska with my grandmother several years ago and it was one of the best vacations I've ever been on. We were only in the Panhandle though, and we didn't even come close to seeing everything that looked neat, so I'd love to go back. As much as I want to see more of the Panhandle I want to visit the rest of the state even more, though.

Beautiful Chris! I need to get over to your part of the world sometime, but you guys don't make it easy (or cheap! ) I'd have to fly halfway around the world just to get to Ozhobbitland, and then a couple thousand miles farther to get to your part. I think you've got no competition for the most remote Forumshirean!chris63 wrote:West Australia

Re: Tales of Home [3]
OMG! For someone who has never lived or even visited a region frequented by the Aurora, it looks more like science fiction movie special effects than reality. Someday I'll have to see them.Ringdrotten wrote:Sometimes I am reminded of how lucky I am to live in Norway. I was looking at the northern lights tonight, almost enchanted by them I was. Don't think of them as hand-sized spiders. Just think of them as popcorn for trolls!Norc wrote:i know david, but hand-sized spiders?!

Re: Tales of Home [3]
That was awesome!
I feel the same way about a sort of 20x20 meter square patch of trees in central Pennsylvania: nothing but a picnic table and tiki torches; I don't own it ... but nobody camps there but me.

Re: Tales of Home [3]
it looks much better when it's real and not sped up like Norc says. Gracious is the word for it, I think
