Re: Doctor Who [6]
I have no idea what you lot are on about but it better be Who related! Ill not have the Who thread Norced- not in the shows 50th year!!
So in Who news- Gaiman has said he doesnt think he will have an episode next series of Who because his tour promoting his new book has taken up so much time- "If I could get Stephen Moffat to pay me in time that would be good. Just get hm to send me 9 weeks."
However he has not stopped writing Who fortunately- "but I would love to write an episode for season eight, it may wel be I'm over in season nine, but I promise that I haven't gone away. I mean, the idea of writing for Peter Capaldi's Doctor is one I find so thrilling, he's exciting, I've been a fan of his since Neverworld (BBC adaptation of Gaimans novel) when he played the Angel Islington."
And a vid round up- one to please Mrs Figg, a very good RTD era tribute vid-
A rather poignant 11th vid-
And a video dedicated to an aspect of Moffat era Who that doesn't tend to get the recognition it deserves in my view- the look of Who.
For a show famed for wobbly sets and made at home effects, and yes Id still be watching if it still was, Moffat era Who is the best the show has ever looked.
The choice of not jut effects but of directors during the Moffat era has been excellent.
I think the visual cues give an era of Who much of its feel, and it was clear from that first panning shot through the back garden of Amelia Pond's house that we were getting something visually different from what had gone before.

I havent read the book or seen the adaptation so I couldnt comment- but if the books author thought he got the character right and was 'excited and thrilled' by him thats good enough for me, he aught to know.
Halfy did you get round to watching the Dinosaurs episode?
Worth a go even without the controversy- a classic romp with a dark undertone.

Re: Doctor Who [6]
If you havent read the book or seen the tv film you cant really comment on whether he was good or not. Gaiman was being polite, it was bad casting, He was unbelievable as an Angel even from the physical description in the book he is completely wrong for the role, but he also was out of his comfort zone in the film.Pettytyrant101 wrote:Capaldi was shit as the Angel Islington- Mrs Figg

Re: Doctor Who [6]
I didnt comment on whether he was good or not, I commented on Gaiman commenting on him.
Gaiman was heavily involved with the tv production pf Neverworld including the casting.
It had production problems with the BBC- they were tight witth the money, insisted it be shot on video and a film filter added in post, then didnt do the post bit, so it was al; over lit for video and looks garish.
They insisted on some script changes Gaiman wasnt happy with but overall he seems proud of it, it got good critical accalim at the time, notably Capaldi.
I see no reason therefore to assume Gaiman is 'just being nice'- he tends to speak his mind. I dont see how you can know that is what he is doing and that he doesn't just genuinely mean it.

Re: Doctor Who [6]
The Big Finish 50th Anniversary production is officially announced for preordering- with a story about the first 8 Doctors (and their companions) entitled- The Light at the End.
The blurb for it reads-
'November 23rd 1963 proves to be a significant day in the lives of all eight Doctors…
It's the day that Bob Dovie's life is ripped apart…
It's also a day that sets in motion a catastrophic chain of events which forces the first eight incarnations of the Doctor to fight for their very existence. As a mysterious, insidious chaos unfolds within the TARDIS, the barriers of time break apart…
From suburban England through war-torn alien landscapes and into a deadly, artificial dimension, all these Doctors and their companions must struggle against the power of an unfathomable, alien technology.
From the very beginning, it is clear that the Master is somehow involved. By the end, for the Doctors, there may only be darkness.'
