Strangely enough as Press Gang was his first tv show and also first to win the big prizes like BAFTA Moffat was known as the guy who wrote strong female characters.
I think he still does. I think Amy is one of the strongest characters Who has had full stop, male or female outside the Doctor himself.
She makes Rose look like a love sick puppy.

So now he's racist too is he? There are black characters in Press Gang, as well as other minority groups. The show also covered topics such as disability, domestic abuse, child abuse and other subjects that tend to lean towards the suggestion that the Moff is rather more pc and liberal in his attitudes so unlikely to be writing stuff from a racist perspective.

To go back to the rumoured announcement- if it is true then there should be something from the BBC at midnight- just under 50 minutes away.

Press Gang began the year my mother started college and ended a year before I was born.

So yeah, first time I've heard of Moffat writing strong female characters.

Call me old fashioned, but I dont remember me saying Moffat is racist, I think I would have remembered that.

I dont see the relevance of that Annette.

Because it would be nice to see Moffat writing for a Black actor rather than the predominantly White middle class males from 20-35 he normally writes.

I think Moffat is not a racist, sexist yes, but not racist.

An author doesn't have to be racist for it to still be regrettable that all or most of their protagonists fit the same mold. Far too many protagonists are white males anyway. Obviously the problem is far larger than Moffat or Who but one can still express hope that a show whose very conceit allows it to switch to a totally different protagonist would take advantage of that and push the envelope a little bit.

An author doesn't have to be racist for it to still be regrettable that all or most of their protagonists fit the same mold.

I still dont at all accept your premise Eldo his leads in shows he has created himself have been - Press Gang- female. Coupling- 3 males, 4 females.
Who is something that already has an existing premise for male lead female companion, and he expanded that by having a married couple on the TARDIS

I agree CC, the argument is preceding from a false premise.

No I just enjoy his writing and have done since Press Gang when at the time I couldn't have told you the name of the writer- only that I really liked it.
And I also happen to think your accusations of sexism are not supported by the evidence of his own words or the female characters he has written.
