Oh the awards... Hopefully we will finish work-a-hobbit before that. Nooooraaaaa? I'm itching to write something! (I'm doing surprisingly well on LJ lately, I'm just sad I can't think of something forumshire-ly.)

Perhaps a "remember to think of candidates" thread or something could be an idea? So many stories!

oh yeah, the awards :Dhi.. yeah, sure we'll fininsh work a hobbit :Pthe bathtub thing was the last thing that happened right?

edit: yes, a remember the candidate thread would be a good idea, i suggest we nominate there too, also since there is quite a lot of stories, why not make a comitee who can nominate the stories. i suggest not too many, or we can choose a story each and then present it, write why we want to nominate it, perhaps vote and so. at least i think that something should be said about each of the stories that are nominated, a sort of review (short, very short) to justify why it is being nominated and why vote for it Smile

I believe last years Creative Corner awards were by nomination- stories had to be nominated by someone other than their author.

But I shall be opening a 2013 awards thread shortly where we can discuss all this.

I did Norc, but we can discuss all that on the Awards thread- just as soon as the NotP finish their special awards issue to open the thread with.

I think that's a good idea. I'm gonna try to make a list of stories that have been posted once the Awards thread is up.  We've had a lot posted so I'd rather have lots of nominees then just a few.

That would be a handy list Eldo- I will be pm'ing you soonish anyway to ask your assistance on some of the stat gathering- a list of who is elegible for best newcomer that sort of thing, as it frees me up time to assist Pure pUblications in the preparations.

There will be a proper Awards Thread opening, tomorrow at the latest, the NotP are working on an Awards Special to launch it with right now (ish)

Timing is a bugger thanks to all the time zones- I try to hold on when the maximum number of folks can be on- which is usually late in northern europe and early in the morning a lot of other places.

Any suggestions for how to better time it are welcome.

I tend to agree Lance but they can get quite uppity those colonials about these things, and apparently we cant just send a couple of gunships round to sort them out anymore Mad

I'll be glad to help out any way I can.  Thanks as always for all the work you put into the Awards.  I'm being completely honest when I say they've become a treasured part of my New Year's ritual over the past several years. Very Happy

As for timing, my main concern is that we should have at the very least a full week of voting, possibly two.  Exact timing for the ceremony hasn't been a problem for me in the past due to winter break, though it might be this year since I'll be working (part-time though, so I don't have a set-in-stone schedule (yet)).  But the last two years it's been in the late afternoon/early evening for me, IIRC.

Will we be having a multi-day awards ceremony again?  I really like having everything done altogether when we get so many people online, but I understand if you need more time. :PAnd again, I'd be happy to help out with anything you need. Smile

I am hoping to have it in two halves with a break in the middle for about half an hour-

The Schedule roughly in my head at the moment is-

Pre-Party- starting 2 hours before the ceremony there will be a thread for everyone to show off their avatars in their party togs, and for the NotP to hopefully grab a few palantarizzi shots.

Then the red carpet (which will be the offical NotP pics of the arrivals with Pretty Tyrant reporting from the carpet, or munching one Mad )

Then the opening of the ceremony.

Movie Awards Section.

Half Hour break in which I dearly hope we can have a song vid from Norc, Lance and whoever else is involved in their music project, and maybe if we are lucky a song from Orwell too.

Plus messages from your sponsors, Pure Publications and Buckie.

Then the Forum Awards.

Closing Ceremony.

After Party.

Sounds awesome. Very Happy I hope that the song idea comes through. Thumbs Up We might want to start the costume preparations earlier so that you don't have to re-photoshop the palantirazzi shots at the last minute again. Maybe have a forum fitting room a day or two in advance. Razz

Thats not a bad idea Edlo, its mainly for that reason the pre-party is 2 hours long- but yes, a fitting room a few days beforehand would allow for more time for the NotP, you already know how drunk their reports are, you can imagine the state of their palantirazzi Mad

There already is a theme Figg- Awards- dashing suits and jaw dropping dresses and anyones guess as to who will be in which.
I dont think it should be fancy dress or anything unless thats what everyone wants (I havent themed the stuff Ive been working on for it so far around a fancydress motif either)

I had a blast with the fancy dress stuff and my tux avatar last year, but I'd be up for doing something else if other people wanted to. Shrugging

The Great Forumshire Story - Page 17 Empty Re: The Great Forumshire Story

Post by Lancebloke Fri Nov 08, 2013 11:25 pm

The rhythmic sound of steel against stone echoed against the plasterboard walls.

'Now that is a piece of art,' said Norc, admiring the mix of smooth curves and jagged angles.

'I think I might like her already,' said David as he continued to run the blade up and down the whetstone.

'She is old enough to be your grand daughter you dirty old pervert,' said another voice.

'Can't an old man have his dreams Ringo?' he replied.

'I don't think we've been introduced,' said Agent Eldorion, not doing well to hide his concern with the direction the conversation was taking.

'Well, we know enough about you,' said David. 'Doesn't the agency teach it's own history any more.'

'No, just months of combat training, tactical awareness, how to disarm bombs. That kind of thing.'

'Well,' said Ringo with a slight grin. 'Next time, take a look at the authors name.'

David sheathed his knife and replaced the whetstone in to a small leather pouch. He sat down at the table by the window as Agents Figg and Amarie entered the room, their hands loaded with bags of Chinese takeaway.

'So,' said David after taking his fill. 'It looks like we got a bit of a party going on around here. All the major bad guys in one place.'

'All of them?' said Figg as she chewed on a spring roll.

'We know Tyrant and Orwell are in the city still.'

'Which means CC is probably skulking around the shadows somewhere too.'

'Well, I don't know her so I will take your word for it. Your agent Lee was also tracking someone codenamed C63 which we have confirmed is character named Chris, a major drug smuggler based in South Africa but with fingers running through Europe and the Americas. '

'Anyone else?' asked Amarie. 'I assume Orwell brought his goons with him too.'

'There are always plenty of goons,' said Ringo.

'That you can bet on,' said David. 'But the one person that is pulling all the strings here is someone I think you have all heard about by now. Azriel.'

The team enchanged confused glances.

'We only just figured out it was a persons name a few days back,' said Eldorion. 'How do you know they are pulling the strings?'

'We know all about Azriel. This isn't the first time she has caused us a few problems.'

'What do you mean you know?' asked Eldorion, his voice showing a tinge of anger. Agent Nora raised an eyebrow.

'About twelve years ago, six of the major crime bosses around the world stopped fighting for turf between themselves. They realised that they had been fighting a war on lots of fronts and playing right in to our hands. Azriel was the one who got their attention with the assassination of four major world leaders on the same day.'

'I remember that,' said Amarie with a little too much enthusiasm for Eldorion who shot her an angry look.

David continued, 'Between them they managed to take out heads of police and security forces as well as government officials around the world. They had planned a last big push that would have left some of the biggest security and intelligence services in the world in pieces. The CIA, FBI, MI6, Mossad, the GDSE, SVR. You name it. Over the period of a week, they would have been in chaos. Somehow, we managed to stop them.'

'The boss knew about this?' Eldorion's voice was now particularly aggressive. 'The boss fucking knew about this and didn't find it appropriate to let us know?'

'He wanted to make sure we were dealing with the right Azriel and not jump to any conclusions.'

'Fuck that. He should have told us. This is a person that controlled half the worlds organised criminals is was trying to do so again. I think that is pertinent fucking information when putting people's lives at risk.'

Agent Nora walked over to Eldo and put her hand on his shoulder. 'Eldo, leave it. It is what it is.'

Pushing her hand aside, he stormed out of the room. Nora shot Figg a quick look.

'Don't you say anything,' she said as she followed out of the room.

'Hold on, I thought you had stopped her,' said Amarie, not really understanding what just happened but eager to know more.

'We stopped their plan. Azriel and a lot of the major players got away. Tyrant and Orwell for example.'

'And you are here to help us?' she asked, quickly biting her lip.

Ringo laughed.

'I think I'm gonna like you too,' said David.

'So, what's the plan?' asked Figg.

'Elthir has being putting the pieces of the puzzle together and has a theory. The datacore that your Agent Nora recovered has names of assassins and world leaders on it. Theory is that the person she threw off the train was just a delivery boy. Azriel meant that for Tyrant and co so they could arrange for the targets to be eliminated.'

'Why not just tell them?'

'Because that would mean having to get them all in one place again. She is very meticulous and wouldn't risk the wrong message getting out.'

'Then that is why they are gathering now. Agent Lee being captured has just given them an opportunity to get it back without Azriel being there.'

'Maybe. Although I think she is already here. She knows we would not negotiate for one persons life. But, it is likely we will try and rescue her. The opportunity is to get some revenge.'

Figg turned to look out of the window. Dusk had just begun to fall over the city.

'So when do we go?'

'Tomorrow night.'
