Hey its your fault!   The upload problem was caused by my downloader, which was a problem I had once before and mentioned, and therefore one which you should have reminded me of before I started.   

And don't say I should have remembered that myself- I was drunk at the time

Why does it look like everything has been stretched?

Because Dailymotion stretched it when it encoded it for reasons best known to themselves.
I dont know if you can change the apsect ratio on Dalymotion- but if not watch in full screen and change your screens ratio to fix it.

I like the advert at the beginning     the tie in between old & new Bilbo was better by far ! Keep Frodo out of it I say. But why the Scottish accent for dwalin ? (no disrespect Petty ) I still think the Crochet gag cheapens it. I can see Legolas showing interest in that Dorothy Perkins sale !   The intro of Smaug was better, Bilbo had time to pack & dress but not to take care of a contract ? he just let a bit of paper flap painfully? & that hanky bit bugs me !   Kili & Fili look surprised as if they didnt know Thorins hate of Orcs ? surely being family they would know ? Those dwarves still look like rejects from Mad Max, Something so big as to uproot trees yet no one heard ? Can see Trolls even tho they were hidden ? did they change missing ponies names ? I still dont like the Troll scene. So each Dwarf queued up to be strung up on a spit ? I still say the opening to the cave is to small for Trolls.Id hate to be Galadriel in that robe ! be like getting out of a badly made double bed ! You've done a great job Petty ! SO much better. I just get riled up over what Peejers has done. Unless you started the whole film from scratch (& kept it better scripted) Im gonna hate it no matter what anyone does ! but, hats off to you petty,

And yes, sadly, I can re-edit, and I can refocus the story on Bilbo, but I cant put the dialogue back, I cant restore Tolkiens humour and word play or replace Elronds hostile elves with teasing ones who delight in all things large and small, important or trivial, or al the other things that should be represented but fail to be.  Damn it now Im crabbit about the films again

edit. it was just my computer playing tricks, now I gottit. oooh its all stretchy, dont know how to change it, anyway here goes.

Rivendell is so much better, smoother and pleasant to watch. you have cut all the irritating orc and Bunny sled crap, I like the way you cut the Dwarves being dicks at the banquet, and Balin arguing with Thorin about the map, that bit always rang false to me as well. The moon table is still ridiculous but thats the least of the problems. I cant tell you how much I prefer the film now without Azog and the jarring to-ing and fro-ing. This version runs smoother and flows better and is really much pleasanter to watch with as much as possible of the garbage taken out..

I've also been watching some of your Hobbit edit, Petty. Though the DoS part.

It's interesting to see how little there is left when you leave out all the running around.  Shows how much of the movie was unnecessary from a story telling perspective. And i'm really impressed with how you cut the end with Smaug going off to Lake Town. Wondered how you were going to solve that, and you managed to remove the dwarves involvement completely.

Thanks Blue. I entirely reworked how I cut the Smaug section between the first low quality rough and this one, and I much prefer this one.

I'm at wifi for a couple minutes so i peeked. I see the White Council (aka the WC) still has a tag scene. Is it clearer toyou yet how much of the WC story needs to stay?

Actually there is nothing left in the DOS edit that pertains to it, so I could based on what I have so far, cut it out entirely.
And instead just have them leave Rivendell without Gandalf and use Balins line in the cave that they were to wait for Gandalf as the only explanation.
When I made that cut of AUJ I had assumed it would be nigh impossible to entirely disentangle the story line from the core original.
However I am inclined to leave it anyway- in the book Gandalf does make mention of the Necromancer when he keeps disappearing and reappearing, the films are sadly lacking in this dialogue so this is one of the places I can give the impression he is up to something important without actually saying what. Thus preserving somewhat book Gandalf's air of mystery and the way he comes and goes in the story at important moments.

OK that has a certain logic. Gandalf excuses himself from the Company to visit the WC.

I still wish there was a way you could pick up and insert a shot of Gandalf kindling his staff as they enter the cave. Then he could be implied not to have left the company at all, and the question of light in the cave and where he appears from in Goblin Town mostly go away.

The problem there David is I would need more than one shot- there are just to many places in that section where he should be conspicuous- on the mountain path, stone giants scene, them being captured and led off, standing before the Great Goblin, he would be notably conspicuous by his absence.

Even if I had one shot of him lighting his staff (and there might be such a shot somewhere- High Fells scene seems a likely source) I think it would just seem rather arbitrary and out of place on its own and so would be more confusing than anything else.
