Re: Doctor Who [5]
You really need to watch this River vid Mrs Figg- you will see Rory in a different light and what he is willing to do and sacrifice for his family, I am sure.
On that an observation about handcuffs-
On that an observation about handcuffs-
- Spoiler:
- It hadnt struck me until watching it all together how Moffat has handcuffs as a symbol of the Doctor/River releationship right from the start.
From the Doctors point of view his first encounter with River and handcuffs is in the library- there he is handcuffed against his will by someone he does not fully trust.
The handcuffs crop again several more times, including Rivers line in the angels two pater "You, me, handcuffs. Must it always end this way?"
The final use of handcuffs for the Doctor is symbolic of all the others before it- it is at their wedding where they fashion handcuffs from a length of cloth and so join together as man and wife- handcuffs of course are a way of confining someone- of removing free will- but that changes to something else if you are handcuffed by someone you completly trust and love.
The Doctor and River have come full circle since the library handcuffs- by the end they are willing and wanting to be joined together, to be handcuffed to one another.

Azriel-
- Spoiler:
- It has always been in the subtext that their releationship was, full, and intimate.
The closest Moffat got to saying it outright was Rivers line in Impossible Astronaut, in response to the Doctor instructing to her to "Scream if she gets in trouble," - "Oh, Im quite the screamer, but that is a spoiler."
The signifigance of the wedding scene is that the handcuffs which willingly bind them are intimate to the Doctor, the length of cloth is his bowtie. Nothing personifies the 11th's like his bowtie. Bowties are cool, and as it turns out symbolic of the intimacy of their releationship.
I think its quite right Moffat doesnt make it explicit in the main text, there is always room for childhood innocence that they just are great friends who go off on and have adventures together and love each other.
But for the older audience there is a real, full releatonship there in the subtext.
I think Moffat walks the fine line between satisfying the two audiences, children and adult, very well all considered how devilishly hard it must be.

boy, do i like subtext
Re: Doctor Who [5]
You'll love watching the River story in order then Norc- there is a lot of subtext revealed when you watch it that way round.
I have started uploading it- but going to take a while.
But those who want to watch can start downloading as I upload if they want- the first file should be appearing on the first drive- in the end I opted for calling it -"Spoliers- You, me, handcuffs." Its in the folde rof that name.
One of my favurite traditional classic Who effects shots- glorious model work on a tiny budget- from the 7the Doctor Trial of a Timelord opening.

Re: Doctor Who [5]
Ok having some upload problems which has resulted in me having to convert the River thing to non HD- the upside is its gone from 9 gig to just over 1- downside is its not in HD and you need to change the aspect ration to 16:10 or its a little squashed.
Does mean it should be uploaded by tomorrow.

Re: Doctor Who [5]
The BBC have announced that Matt Smith is to relinquish the role of the Doctor at the end of the year, once filming has completed on the Christmas Special.
In a press release. the actor reflected:
Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the
show. I'm incredibly grateful to all the cast and crew who work tirelessly every day, to realise all the elements of the show and deliver Doctor Who to the audience. Many of them have become good friends and I'm incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last four years.
Having Steven Moffat as show runner write such varied, funny, mind-bending and brilliant scripts has been one of the greatest and most rewarding challenges of my career. It's been a privilege and a treat to work with Steven, he's a good friend and will continue to shape a brilliant world for the Doctor.
The fans of Doctor Who around the world are unlike any other; they dress up, shout louder, know more about the history of the show (and speculate more about the future of the show) in a way that I've never seen before, your dedication is truly remarkable. Thank you so very much for supporting my incarnation of the Time Lord, number Eleven, who I might add is not done yet, I'm back for the 50th anniversary and the Christmas special!
It's been an honour to play this part, to follow the legacy of brilliant actors, and helm the TARDIS for a spell with 'the ginger, the nose and the impossible one'. But when ya gotta go, ya gotta go and Trenzalore calls. Thank you guys.
Matt.
Head writer Steven Moffat said:
Every day, on every episode, in every set of rushes, Matt Smith surprised me: the way he'd turn a line, or spin on his heels, or make something funny, or out of nowhere make me cry, I just never knew what was coming next. The Doctor can be clown and hero, often at the same time, and Matt rose to both challenges magnificently.
And even better than that, given the pressures of this extraordinary show, he is one of the nicest and hardest-working people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. Whatever we threw at him - sometimes literally - his behaviour was always worthy of the Doctor.
But great actors always know when it's time for the curtain call, so this Christmas prepare for your hearts to break, as we say goodbye to number Eleven. Thank you Matt - bow ties were never cooler.
Of course, this isn't the end of the story, because now the search begins. Somewhere out there right now - all unknowing, just going about their business - is someone who's about to become the Doctor. A life is going to change, and Doctor Who will be born all over again! After 50 years, that's still so exciting!
A testament to a mad sci fi show perhaps that the stroy graces the front pages of tomorrows Sun, Mail, Telegraph and Times.

Re: Doctor Who [5]
I didnt see much point in spoilering it Norc, sorry- its in every newspaper, its even on the main tv news here, its officialy announced with a press release and there will be endless speculation between now and xmas about who the new Doctor is.
And no one sadder than me to see Matt going- I thought he had at least one more series left in him-but this is Who if it stayed the same it wouldnt still be here- I didnt think Matt was going to make much of a Doctor when I saw the pics of who they had cast, and I couldnt have been more wrong- so I will as a good Whovian take my medicine, shed my tears and see what new adventures await me with a new Doctor.
