Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
Everything after Smaug's death, most likely. There's a fair amount of material there, and while that doesn't really sound like enough material for a full film, it's possible they'll follow the lead of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and make nearly the entire film the climax of the series. Or maybe they'll include enough invented material that it won't be an issue.Norc wrote:although, what the hell is TABA going to be about? just the journey home? there's not that much plot? is the last movie gonna be one huge battle scene with the battle of five armies? i mean, we get to see the dragon in the next movie..
Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
On the Beorn issue, he's never been my favorite character so I don't feel very strongly about him, but I never doubted that he would be included. Sure, Rankin/Bass left him out, but even when we were looking at a two film project there was still enough run time that I couldn't imagine PJ leaving out such a well-known and widely-beloved character. While his human form does look kinda weird, I'll reserve judgement until we've seen more than a grainy rear view photo. On the other hand, let's not forget that (based on the DOS trailer) bear!Beorn will try to attack the Company at some point, probably when they first meet him. So I'm not sure that his presence will be very pleasing to fans of the Beorn of the book. :/
Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
In the book Beorn loves his animals & treats them highly! They seem to me to be his family & watch out anyone that would hurt them ! So, going by that, Id say he wouldnt look anything like this weird fooking hybrid as it would scare his animals not endear them ! Animals will connect with humans thru eye contact, so Beorn would have kindly eyes, full of love & patience for his animals. His body language would be calm, slow maybe & quietly flowing, his voice calm, softer, easy going. Until.... He changes ! THEN we should get the animal in the man ! He knows & loves his animals because its part of who HE is, also he knows how to act like one, stalk like one & kill like one, thats his other side. I dont get any of that feeling as I do from the book by that God awful pic of that god awful fooking "Underworld" hybrid ! Beorn in the book has intelligence, going by that pic of Beorn he looks all grunt, snarl, rips meat raw off the bone & nothing else. If you use Beorn of the book, you could get good scenage, He likes stories & can tell a tale himself, AND he uses plates & cutlery ! this hybrid looks like he only uses his claws !

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
I imagine Beorn to look like a grumpy muscle bound Hagrid someone who you are a bit wary of because you know underneath he is very dangerous and wild. Bears look cuddly and cute but they can be very aggressive, dangerous and scary, If you approached a Bear you wouldnt know if it would just snuffle and sniff you or rip your head off, and thats what I think Beorn should look like, ambigous.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]

Seems like I'm the only one who couldn't give a rats ass about how Beorn looks! I seem to have lost the ability to get excited over these films. Whatever news I read or pictures I see, I just don't feel anything. The trailer didn't excite me much, I don't look forward to the film. If anything, I am pissed that I don't care - I want to, I just can't give a s**t

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
Well I did say that I'm not going to judge Beorn's appearance until we see more of him. But I'm already skeptical because of the bear attack scene from the trailer. :/
Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
I am actually sort of looking forward to the two next films in a twisted way- I suspect they may be laugh out loud bad.
Never mind the bear attack- what about Bombur the dwarf cannonballl piling into orcs we saw- and I read somewhere the dwarves will have cannons at the BofA!
Maybe he thinks he is adapting Warhammer- it would explain a lot.

That'd be a film I'd watch, only it would have to be called "Warhammer", not "The Hobbit"

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
I can just imagine how tacky Dain is going to look riding on his pig. I reckon thats why Billy Connolly was so blasè when he was interviewed, he was preemptively distancing himself after feeling like a numpty spectacle.
I feel like Ringo, I have completely lost all enthusiasm, I may not even bother going to watch DOS or DROSS as I like to call it..

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
Come on guys, AUJ was disappointing but are you seriously going to ignore the next two films after so many years of anticipation and speculation? If you have to take a break then just unsubscribe from TORn until November and stop reading all the latest news and revelations, then tune in again when the film's about to come out.
I haven't been following the film all that closely lately and I've found that it makes the wait much more pleasant. But I do look forward to the festivities (and inevitable crabbit) surrounding the release since in two years time Middle-earth movie series will, in all likelihood, be done for the next decade or two at least.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
Well that gives us a couple of decades of crabbitly pointing out everything that PJ got wrong until someone does it properly.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
Well yeah, all I'm saying is that if you're uninterested you might want to stop reading all the news, spend more time thinking about and discussing other topics, and then come back when you're refreshed. It's just a suggestion, but I don't think there's much sense in forcing oneself to follow movie news if it's a frustrating experience.
Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
What about it making you crabbit? Perfectly good reason to follow the news.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
I'll watch them both, probably more than once (fingers crossed for edits ), I just wish I could get more excited over them. I don't visit TORn very often these days, but it's hard to put The Hobbit fully aside when I come here every dayEldorion wrote:Come on guys, AUJ was disappointing but are you seriously going to ignore the next two films after so many years of anticipation and speculation?

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
The possibly of editing something vaguely watchable out of them is now my main interest in these films.

Doesnt say a lot for our collective hopes for these films does it when our hopes amount to- might be able to salvage an edit out of it and one hot elf.

Re: The Desolation of Smaug pre-release thread [SPOILERS]
my god if that pic is Beorn he looks like crap... I know its grainy but that has got to be the worst concept design of anything Jackson or WETA has done so far. like the one picture shows it looks more like Sonic the hedgehog than it does Beorn. Someone should walk up and poke Jackson right in the eye and ask him if he is just blind or stupid...

I wish Ally was here because she's probably the only one who would get that.
