Was tempted to put this news story in the sherlock thread and at the moment it seems worthyof his skills to unravel.

Ok here is the odd and tragic tale.

A mother and daughter were found in an inn in Greenock (just across the Clyde from where I am) with severe blade injuries.
The daughter was found in a corridor by another guest, but sadly died in hospital from her wounds before being able to speak. The mother was alrady dead in the room.

The mother was a Foster carer, and a former lib-dem councillor.
According to the daughters boyfriend (who was out the contry at the time) she was happy, had just had a job interview that she was pretty confident she would get the job from, and was planning a holiday break with her friends.

The mother (she has 5 kids in her care) dropped her foster child to the usual care place in Glasgow in the morning, but failed to return in the afternoon- this was so unusual behaviour that the nursery immediately alerted the authorities.
But neither the mother nor one of the daughters could be located until they turned up dead in a hotel 70 miles away.
According to police they booked into the hotel at 15.50 but then left almost immediately and didnt return until after midinght- in the meantime they were spotted in a sort of 40 mile radius - they were in Paisley, then in Renfrewshire and Balloch before returning to the hotel.

The really puzzling bit is that according to the police they are NOT looking for any third party- which would imply they fled their home, left all the kids, drove around for about 5-6 hours and then stabbed one another to death in that hotel room.

But all indications form friends and family say no chance.
Definetly a puzzler for our police this one.

Don't friends and family usually say no chance when someone they know is accused of murder, suicide, or both?

That said I don't want to speculate on this case since I don't know all the details.

At the moment those are all the details Eldo (public ones at least obviously) the police themselves are saying publicly its a bit of a puzzler and are asking for any info from the public which might shed some light on it- but they hope the forensics information can at least tell them what happened in the hotel room.

I certainly hope that if anyone knows something about what happened they'll come forward but I don't want to play Internet detective.

I wasnt expecting you to solve the case Eldo- it just struck me as a particualry Sherlockian sounding set of events.

They were kidnapped, forced to drive round collecting money,back to the hotel where the kidnapper made the daughter watch the mother being stabbed before stabbing her.The killer remains at large as he kept in the shadows,away from cameras. no one can ID him.He leaves no evidence & is planning his next crime. I blame the Russian Mafia Nod
