All the more reason not to let them watch a film chock full of violence.

I do not think PJ's TH is an appropriate film fo a 7 year old to see ad I would not take my nieces or nephews to it for that reason.
But its TH- I should be able to take them to see an adaptation of it.

Theres an interview on the CNN page with Stephen Fry- mainly BAFTA related as he is hosting- but last 40 seconds he is asked about TH and replies "I'm not in this one. I'm in the next one, or maybe the third....or the fourth or fith." Laughing

And when asked what he had to eat as Mayor of Laketown he refuses to say (its testicles) as "I let that slip awhile back and got into awful trouble for it. Its supposed to be a suprise."

I dont think Id like PJ to organise me a suprise party Shocked

The Hobbit was rated PG-13 in the US and 12A in the UK, which as far as I know is the same as the LOTR films got. I probably wouldn't recommend TH to anyone under the age of about 10 or so, even if they had read the book. It's not bloody or gory but Petty's right that there's quite a bit of violence.

I'm still dreading what the "severe torture" scene at the start of DOS will be like. For anyone who missed it, the actor who plays Beorn said that he has a scene where he tortures a goblin.

Yeah it will be intresting so see how things go- I mean if you take the book as a template then there is a lot more violence towards the end than the begining- given how much PJ put in the begining its got me wondering how much there will be come the end. Shocked

I'd like to think that PJ will remember that it's a children's book and not go too over the top but ... yeah, that's not going to happen. No

You're right about the violence getting worse towards the end though. Tolkien mentioned the goblins' black blood during the Battle of the Five Armies so I wouldn't be surprised if we get plenty of blood during the climactic battle in film three.

Dunno, Azriel; that looks more like a 'come hither' look to me.

Okay Norc, I have to ask since there's no agreement in the online literature: what's your definition of 'derpy', or 'herpy-derpy'?

spontanously making funny faces and/or noises to cope with awkward silences or boredom or by mistake looking doped/drunk/retarded/scary/like a fuck-nugget/[insert whatever you feel like] on pictures. happens often with food. see below.
