What, have you ever tried rolling an R? It's dangerous business, what if it got stuck? I mean shrapnel could come flying out and everything, and I don't see her using a shred of safety equipment.

It's all very good to have been practicing it under professional supervision and what-not from the age of 4, but if performing at such a tender young age I think some certificate should be posted or something, just so we know everything's safe.

I didn't say she didn't do it beautifully, just concerned for her safety and that of the camera crew.

People run around worrying about the flood of guns on America's streets, but now I hear there's a whole country just blithely rolling their R's? I have to assume, being that you've got a civilized country, that this thing is regulated, right? I mean, permits and clearly marked areas and such, right? RIGHT?

well, there are some people..in some fjords who rolle their R's like the french.

That's it, I'm not rescuing teenagers anymore. Given the razzing I got at the hands of Fyordlandians and Scottshobbits in the rescue thread, I'll confine myself to listening to nice music where POLITE young teenagers roll their R's under controlled situations.

Why are you so opposed to rolling r's, Halfwise? This is after all a forum for fans of JRRRRRRRRT Tolkien.

It's dangerous. Just doing my part to stop the expansion from two fronts: Europe and central America (the Mexican radio announcers are like machine guns). Fortunately the Asian countries seem a pretty stout bulwark against this kind of nonsense, but if the Russians start to ..... can you imagine what a big beefy Russian would be like rolling his R's? You'd have to rope off a safety zone wherever he goes.

I've noticed that New England has some strange beliefs about R's in general. I know Cape Cod cranberry farmers who drop all the R's off the ends or some words only to stick them randomly on the ends of others. ( "My mothah's idear" for example.)

Rolled R's in the mouths of responsible speakers are really no problem at all, but in the mouths of people can't even control their regular R's I can see why you would want to be cautious.
