How amazing it would be if Prof Brian Cox and co discovered life on mars on David Bowie's birthday!

I liked it too, but think it went out of production due to being too intelligent for it's target audience.

Think they all died in the last episode. The ice age came and they all froze.

Anyone ever seen Eureka on SyFy? One of those investigative cop shows. The twist is that it's set in town in Oregon full of the smartest people on the planet. One of my favorite shows and one of the only decent things on SyFy.

I wish Brian Cox would leave the philosophising alone, and just talk. He has such a beautiful voice but his ideas - bleuch!

This was one of my favourite kids shows growing up, and was also Moffats first show as Head Writer (and the first of his to start wining awards).
Press Gang- about an ambitious junior newspaper.
Americans may have to excuse the 'American' characters accent however!

Heres the first episode. Plenty of Moffat trademarks- including witty dialogue.

Just watched the entire first series of Press Gang- some fav quotes-

Kenny: People say I'm too reasonable to have opinions, but I don't know about that.

Lynda: Has anyone ever told you you've got a wonderful vocabulary?
Spike: I always knew that, I just could never put it into words.

Lynda: Why do you assume I'm completely incapable of understanding anything technical?
Kenny: I find it saves time.

Colin: I'm not following this am I?
Frazz: Of course you are, just a long long way behind.

Julie: Don't take this wrong, but you behave like a real jerk.
Colin: There's a right way to take that?

Julie: Why don't you just tell Spike you give in?
Lynda: Because I'd rather die than let Spike win anything ever.
Julie: Why?
Lynda: You know what he's like, he's so competitive.

Kenny: Oh well I'm sorry if my problems are not providing enough entertainment for you!
Lynda: Oh don't be like that Kenny, they usually do.

Spike: Do you know what that woman has done to me?
Frazz: Dated you, dumped you, broken your heart, sent you packing back to America, given you a serious complex about all love of women because you know deep down you're still crazy about her and always will be.
Spike: Lucky guess.

Kenny: I want to talk to you about how you're spending your money.
Sam: I told you. I gave you that submission thingy.
Kenny: Oh yeah. Let's take look, shall we? Graphics Department spending preposals: a HB pencil and a sunbed.
Sam: I can explain the pencil.

Spike Thomson: She thinks we're stupid. I mean she just assumes we're stupid. How does she know that we're stupid?
Frazz Davis: Maybe somebody told her.

What is with all of these new TV series based on successful films?! You have the Zombieland series, SHIELD, the on-hold Star Wars series, etc. I just find it interesting that this is becoming a trend.

I watched the Graham Norton show last night- which I dont normally unless there is a guest of particular interest to me on it- but I got a message from a mate saying to switch to it as it was car crash tv- he was right!

The guests are Sarah Silverman, Fassbender, and Mark Wahlberg- and they are all drunk, but in particular Wahlberg is hammered- and it just got worse and worse as the show went on.

skip to about 3 mins for the guests to show up.

Sarah Silverman in hot shorts! cyclops I was disappointed she wasn't really being interviewed in that clip. I was disappointed she was drinking water.

I don't think she's that great a comedian, but she's damn sexy.

Two of Britains finest comic actors, Ronnie Barker and David Jason in Open All Hours. Even if some of the humour has dated a little its worth it for the character perfomrances alone.

I was going to bring that up myself! I signed up for Netflix a year go to watch their first original program -- Lilyhammer -- on Amarie's suggestion and enjoyed it for what it was. I've stuck with Netflix since then for their streaming library so I decided to check out House of Cards when I heard about it. I marathoned the whole thing over the weekend since they released all the episodes at once.

It's quite good, I really enjoyed it, though it has some flaws that become more evident looking back. David Fincher's direction in the episodes he directed is phenomenal, and all of the other directors have at least one feature film to their name, so it maintains high quality even when Fincher is not directly involved. All in all though, the best part of the show is the acting, especially Kevin Spacey as Francis. He's just superb, and the fourth wall-breaking monologues work perfectly. I will watch the second season just for him.

Netflix also has the original House of Cards Trilogy from the BBC available online and I've watched a bit of that. It's very good too, of course, though I think I might prefer Spacey as the lead (nothing against Ian Richardson). I haven't seen enough of the original to judge, though.

I find it very hard to imagine House of Cards in a US setting- it seems so British a show to me. Like trying to imagine a US version of Yes, Minister.

I've only watched a little bit of the original, but I understand that the American version is a rather loose adaptation. The writers definitely did their research on Washington, and they changed details of the plot relevant to that. Francis (also known as Frank in the American version) is still a whip, but he has a place in the House of Representatives and the broader government hierarchy. One of the things I really liked about the show was how genuine it felt in terms of Washington. I don't know how I'd feel if I'd watched the British version first, though.
