No- if you cant watch hd films on your comp at the moment this wont help- its just storage, it wont help with how well your computer can play back the film- and as they are HD files up to 7 1/2 gig in size your comp needs a bit of RAM (memory space) to buffer it in to, to play back smoothly.
Your comp should have ideally a minimum of 2 gig of ram. Im not actually sure what the minimum needed is as Ive never tried watching them on a pc with less than 6 gig of ram.

Perhaps someone else who has downloaded and watched them can say how much ram they have.

I've got 4 GB of RAM and I've not encountered any problems. Mrs Figg, if you open the start menu, you'll notice that "Computer" or "My computer" is written on the left side menu. Right click this and then click "Properties", like illustrated here:



You'll find how many gigabytes of RAM you have there

1 gig Mrs Figg means it might stutter a bit on playback of the bigger files- you should be ok for the Hobbit though as its not a huge HD file.

how does it work? does it mean the film would use up a lot of room and once its in your computer there aint room to swing a pussy?

No, no. Its just like watching something on youtube or something- it buffers a bit of info into the memory so its always a bit ahead of where your watching- that keeps everything smooth- with really big video files and small ram though you can run into problems- as it cant move the amount of info about fast enough.

The Hobbit should be fine though with a gig of ram- ive watched bigger files on my old pc and it had only 1/2 gig of ram.

You might also get away with at least Book 1 of LotR's as its not as big as other books being only an hour and a half long- and it least you know if it doesnt playback well, no chance on the bigger files.

All you have to do is go to my skydrive- go to the throughcut folder- download the three files in the folder to your computer. Extract the video file- watch the video. Its really simple honest.

Hey! I went to all the trouble to download, and what do I get --- at best piss-poor next to non-existent sound - and only where sound exists, which is not much where!

When dealing with Orwell this is always the case, every time!

I have not had any other complaints about the sound and I am sure I would have if it was a problem, so I am, yet again, putting this one down to Orwell. Probably got the sound switched off or something.

1. What film is it you are having the sound problems with.
2. What player are you using to watch it in?
3. Do other video files play fine in it?

Yes, and we only use the best varnish - not the cheap stuff that is too glarey when the sun comes through the shutters. That's Little Forumshire all over...

Chris- TH would fit on a dvd eaily enough- but most of the rest of the 'book' files are too large as they are HD quality. You could probably get them onto a double sided dvd I suppose.
