This would make sense given it would be almost exactly a year before the film comes out, similar to how The Hobbit's first trailer was a year before AUJ. I hope this is true.
Then there's at least one thing most of us will like about BOTFA
I've heard rumours about Jurassic World, Batman Vs Superman and even The Avengers having teaser trailers attached as well...

Yeah, I'm still skeptical of the film in general (and really wish they hadn't gone with Abrams), but I'm sure the trailer will be a lot of fun, especially on the big screen.

Seing as it is Disney a small part of me can't help but wish this is terrible, $4 Billion down the toilet...
I'm sure the film will be at least good, but I'm not expecting much, and I'm sure the fanboys of the original trilogy will do all they can to hate it...
Yeah, Abrams wasn't a interesting choice, I'd have preffered Cuaron, Brad Bird, Spielberg etc
That said, I kinda wish we'd seen David Fincher at the Helm:

"I always thought of Star Wars as the story of two slaves [C-3PO and R2-D2] who go from owner to owner, witnessing their masters' folly, the ultimate folly of man... I thought it was an interesting idea in the first two, but it's kind of gone by Return Of The Jedi."

Re: Star Wars
I suspect a big part of the reason why many more prestigious and established directors are uninterested in Star Wars and similar projects is how much control producers tend to have over them. Disney has been great to Pixar and Marvel since buying them, but that doesn't mean they're going to toss out Kathleen Kennedy and the Lucasfilm crew and give primary creative control to the director.
Re: Star Wars
Nor should they. More than just about anything else, Star Wars has to look like Star Wars.

Re: Star Wars
Agreed. Producers are an important part of the filmmaking process, and they help keep SOME semblance of a coherent identity in movie series that switch up directors, such as HP, Bond, or even the OR Stag Wars trilogy. I'm curious how much the story has changed from the treatment that Lucas sold along with his company, but I'm sure that Kennedy and others have had input into every major decision.
It is a little ironic though since Lucas' main professional ambition for decades was to free himself from the dictates of studios and producers, to the point that he paid for every Star Wars movie since the first out of his own pocket. Granted, his pockets had grown deep after American Graffiti and Star Wars, but there was no guarantee that Empire would connect and not bankrupt him.

Re: Star Wars
Of course Lucas was in charge and had his team when they made the prequels, and they were bloody awful.

Re: Star Wars
He was also in charge and calling the shots on "Empire" and "Jedi" too, along with various collaborators. And he was responsible for (single-handedly) writing and directing the original as well, of course.

You say that but what about all that stuff that he wanted C3PO to sound like a slimey car salesman ect. Somebody was overwriting hm and telling him no back then. And all for the better too.

Re: Star Wars
He wasn't overwritten on Threepio; Anthony Daniels just took the character in different direction and by the time Lucas realized that he went along with it. Other changes such as making Luke a teenager and Han not an alien Lucas made on his own.
Re: Star Wars
At the beginning of course Lucas defined Star Wars. But as time went on he lost touch. The first sign that he no longer 'got' Star Wars was the appearance of the ewoks in Return of the Jedi. It only got worse from there on out. It needs to stay in the hands of people who care about the original feeling. Supposedly Abrams does care about that, but whether he can keep himself under enough control to be a loving mimic remains to be seen.

Re: Star Wars
One of the guys on my recent challenge is in the industry (prosthetics mainly) and has said if there is one thing about how the film is stacking up so far it is the detail and attention going in to the sets etc. He isnt on the project (although he has done lots for Dr Who) but has seen some of the work.
At least sounds like they are going for a balance between CGI and old school.

Re: Star Wars
They're shooting on film too, aren't they? I am heartened by them trying to recreate the feel of the original trilogy in these ways.
Re: Star Wars
I find myself actually hoping this one is good- not just so I can get a new SW film thats worth watching, but more because of how Hollywood is a cowardly follow the leader industry.
If SW is good and successful and they use a lot of physical props and sets rather than cgi it might just halt the horrible cgi age we live in and people might start making films with characters and stories again instead of just relying on a wow factor from the visuals.

Re: Star Wars
Is it a real trailer, or is it fake? I can't tell Anyway, I was thinking "this is going to be crap" until the theme melody started playing and the Falcon appeared - then I loved it I'm not seeing how it could be any worse than the TH trilogy, so I say: bring it on

Re: Star Wars
Aw shit. That's the real trailer, its from a legit YouTube channel. Looks like they're going with the Empire outlasting the death of the Emperor in ROTJ, maybe. Can't wait to see more.
Re: Star Wars
Well, regardless of Palpatine coping it the Empire didnt lose the bulk of its force during the battle of Endor. Plenty of others to take up the cause!
Re: Star Wars
There's no way it can be worse than TH. There's no source material for them to fuck up and "adapt."
I liked what I saw in the trailer, except for maybe that new lightsaber, that was a little weird.
I don't think we should be worried, yet.
The Falcon was the best part of the teaser. "It just screams classic Star Wars." - Mr. Plinkett
I was seeing negative comments on YouTube, but I felt like the teaser captured the spirit of Star Wars, we'll just have to wait to see if the entire movie can do the same. It's hard to describe, but it was that feeling like I was a kid again.

Re: Star Wars
Yeah, it was kinda inevitable they'd do this, and it does make sense, but I feel like it thematically undercuts the ending of Jedi. But they'd have to address the Imperial remnant somehow anyway.
My brother was mad when I told him there is a 30 year time jump and the whole EU was thrown out, though.

Re: Star Wars
Well the prequels managed to fuck up their place in the existing Star Wars universe plenty, and Abrams is only one for two on Star Trek, so I'm hardly certain that this won't also be a massive disappointment. Even the Phantom Menace trailer was great.
I am hopeful though.
