Re: Star Wars
Who cares. If it is another Death Star, all we know is it's going to be blown up by the end of the movie anyway. (Damn those conveniently placed exhaust vents.)

Re: Star Wars
That was exactly the kind of trailer I expected from Abrams...whether that is a good or bad thing remains to be seen...

Re: Star Wars
I'm kinda curious about the implication that the Sith and Jedi are seen as distant legends that may or may not be true. The Old Republic is only like 50 years removed from the timeframe of the new trilogy. Perhaps we're to believe that aggressive propaganda campaigns have distorted popular memory of how things were before the Empire? Or maybe I'm overthinking/misinterpreting this line.

I'm wondering about Luke being absent from all the marketing so far, presumably the very last of the Jedi it would be kinda weird if he dissapeared off into the unknown without trying to reform the jedi first, I'm wondering whether his absence is tied into the plot and these 'distant legends' in some way rather than Abrams deliberately withholding stuff just for a 'wow!' moment in the film

Re: Star Wars
I dunno know if any of the plot leaks or rumors touch on this and I kinda don't want to know, but it does seem like Luke might be missing, out in the wilderness or something. I hope he didn't turn to the Dark Side. It's all very intriguing to me.
Re: Star Wars
Another thing that slipped my mind last night: this trailer heavily implies that Boyega's character is a stormtrooper, which is what I had hoped for after the teasers. The main interpretation seemed to be that he was impersonating a stormtrooper, a la Luke and Han in ANH, but I thought the idea of following a stormtrooper main character (even a deserter) could be really cool.

I'm wondering if Boyega and Ridley's characters were designed as a deliberate nod to Han and Leia-the lovable rogue who turns his back on a dodgy past and the headstrong female who he has a love hate relationship with...I'm glad Abrams is remaining very vague with story details...

Re: Star Wars
I always thought Luke should have gone bad- he is told by Obi Wan to complete his training, but he doesn't and he rushes off, and he does lose it with Vader and succumb to anger. Always seemed obvious to me Luke was the next Vader- hell we even get the scene in the marsh with his face under the Vader mask.

This is about the same timeframe from the original series where Vader is informed that he's all that's left of "that old religion". It wasn't mythologized, but people were scoffing at it. Apparently the more technologically advanced a culture is the shorter their cultural memory is.

It wouldn't be Star Wars without massive amounts of merchandise and cross-promotions.
As someone who works in retail I've learned to be grateful for events like this.
