Re: Star Wars
It would be cool though......
Even if they did release a restored original cut, I've got no hope of not seeing "Episode 4: A New Hope" in the opening. If they're even thinking of releasing it in that form now, it's as a tie-in to the new Disney Movies, which will presumably continue the serial numbering.

Re: Star Wars
Not sure I I believe that or not.
Hmm...kinda a slap in the face of George Lucas (who now owns, what 40% of Disney?) but good news all the same, I have the original versions on DVD, but I've resisted buying the boxset on Blu Ray, if this does turn out to be true, my decision would probably rest on the special features content, and in all honesty a part of me would actually like the special editions included as well...if only for the giggles..

I really, really, really want to believe this, but I don't, because as far as we know, Disney doesn't have the home video rights to the six existing SW films, at least not yet. FOX has the rights to Episodes I, II, III, V, and VI until the year 2020, and they own the original film in perpetuity. (The reason for this difference is because they funded the first film, while only distributing the later ones.) It's possible that Disney has bought or licensed these rights from FOX and just not announced it yet, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up without solid evidence. {{{}}}

Re: Star Wars
Well, I guess I won't get my hopes up either. I have never purchased the Star Wars movies. I did see the DVD's with the special edition and the originals at Half Price Books a week or two ago. Thought about purchasing them, then decided to resist.

I have the original edition DVDs and while it's cool to have them, the quality is crap.

The DVD's were apparently burned off a crappy pan and scan of the Laserdisc edition in the early 90's, the rumours suggest the Blu Ray is taken from the original negative, which is apparently in rather crappy quality.

Re: Star Wars
I find it weird the original negatives are in such poor condition- its not like it was a sleeper hit and only became popular years later- they knew what they had at the time.

Funny thing I saw as I was scrolling through my twitter feed. Every actor in the Hobbit tweeted about the trailer. Elijah Wood (who I thought might be in this movie) tweets about Star Wars. Frodo has spoken!

I'm guessing beating the Dark Side is a bit like exams.. you've got a plan for all the things you're going to do when you've finished all your exams, because you'll have all the time in the world! ... And then you just end up watching old movies and TV reruns. Luke was probably thinking he'd train all these new, young and promising Jedi would-be's, but when he finally beat Darth Vader he found the couch too comfortable to get anything done

Re: Star Wars
I have the originals on VHS with covers that are so worn they look like crap and the tape wobbles in a few places but I've had them since I was a kid.
Everyone knows Episodes I, II, and III are the best films anyways ... just kidding I think I have them on DVD somewhere. I haven't watched them in years.
Here's to hoping Episode VII is any good

Rumor: Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer attached to third Hobbit movie - /Film
This would make sense given it would be almost exactly a year before the film comes out, similar to how The Hobbit's first trailer was a year before AUJ. I hope this is true.
