Well for YOUR information, this is not my usual self! I normally turn my nose up to such things, but as Eldo said, "Even I have my limits!"
But at least Legolas isn't a "made up film character." If they choose to make Leggy a bigger character and scratch the whole Itaril idea, would that be a bit more (bitter) sweet for everyone who is in opostion to bringing bloom back?

Re: Confirmed Cast So Far
As I've said I don't mind Legolas being there in the Court of his father, that makes sense, but he has no part to play in the story of Bilbo and the dwarves and that should not change. And if he goes to the Battle of Five Armies then the King of the Elves can't go or vice versa, monarchy doesn't stay monarchy for very long by sending all its eggs off in one basket to somewhere they might get crushed!

Since learning Legolas was Gay, I've been wondering if Gimli would be in the movie afterall... and current rumour has it that "Iaril" is "Gimli" in Elvish - at least, that's what I heard!

Re: Confirmed Cast So Far
The Hobbit Movie Three: (Part of) Act 39 Scene 4567
Gloin: Hey, I might not like elves, but you're certainly leggy.
Legolas: What do you mean by that my bedraggled three-quarter-starved dwarf?
Gloin: Only what I said. Though I might say, dwarfs of my circle have aways had an eye for a nice turn of leg...
Bifur: And blond hair... you've always liked long blond hair, Gloin... In fact, I don't mind blondies neither...
Gloin: You keep out of this, Bifur, I saw him first...
Legolas blushes (though not necessarily displeased).

Re: Confirmed Cast So Far
I suspect this only loks like good news folks. Seeing as we now have two version of Bilbo, as well as Frodo and Drogo cast I suspect film two will someone cover Drogo drowning and Bilbo adopting Frodo. This is NOT the Hobbit!!

That's a thought I prefer to be optimistic about it, though. Let's hope he'll be reading to some youngsters from his book, and that we'll have no dramatic drownings!

Re: Confirmed Cast So Far
Maybe we've mounted enough pressure, Mr Tyrant, and PJ has returned to Reason!
Now, as I see it, we'll have Ian sitting telling a very young Frodo his tale. It will be exactly like the book, but allow the folk who've seen the LotR movies overcome any confusion about "discrepancies" between the movies and "Bilbo's Tale", seeing them as being due to Bilbo's sense of humour and his desire to lighten the impact of his dangerous adventures for his immature little hobbit's ears! This way BOOK readers get THEIR Hobbit and horrid non-readers can get a version that is Brilliant but still comprensible.
Hooray! At least there will be one Tolkien-based movie I can watch!
Certain folk [the Masses] may even decide to READ the book, then read LotR too, then join us in getting LotR remade properly, this after they realize how great LotR really is - the book that is - and how poor a shadow the movies are! PJ can then - now that he has redeemed himself - remake LotR properly, and make a whole new bag of money. I won't begudge him that in the circumstances. Oh what a happy ending it would make - a eucatastrophe, in fact!

Re: Confirmed Cast So Far
News just in!
So no Rob and a new Fili to find!
I am sad to report that Rob Kazinsky, who was cast in the role of Fili, is having to leave The Hobbit and return home, for personal reasons. Rob has been terrific to work with and his enthusiasm and infectious sense of humour will be missed by all of us. I should say that Rob's departure will not affect ongoing filming of The Hobbit, nor will it impact work done to date, as we had yet to film much of Fili's storyline. At the moment we are shooting scenes featuring Bilbo without the Dwarves, which will give us time to find a new Fili. I'll keep everyone posted with updates as they come.
Cheers,
Peter J

Re: Confirmed Cast So Far
I suppose this is going to be an ongoing risk filming two films over several years with such a big main cast. Lucky really it has hapened early on- does make you wonder what happens if someone has to drop out (or drops down dead Illuvatar forbid) in the middle!!)
Slightly worried however by the line; 'Rob's departure will not affect ongoing filming of The Hobbit, nor will it impact work done to date, as we had yet to film much of Fili's storyline.'
What stroyline exactly? There's a beeping from my crabbit meter on this and its rarely wrong!

If that's the case what is Elija doing in it? He's way to old to play a Frodo young enough for Bilbo to be reading to (at least young enough to explain the style in which Bilbo tells his story). I am afraid I do expect dramatic drwonings. Its easy drama- I don't see the Coven resisting that on previous form.

I think they just mean the part of the story that Fili features in. Perhaps I'm just too optimistic after being away from your influence, though.
Re: Confirmed Cast So Far
Well Rob's departure didn't slow the film down much! And at last a name for Thranduil!
Dean O'Gorman will be playing Fili.
I'm also pleased to announce that Lee Pace will be playing the Elven King Thranduil

Saorise Ronan is not in the hobbit - but itaril may still be!
In a new interview with the Belfast Telegraph, Saorise Ronan has revealed that she will not be playing the long rumoured role of the Elf Itaril in the upcoming Hobbit films.
An excerpt follows:
It’s probably not going to work out with The Hobbit unfortunately.
Because I would have been working for about a year on it and there were other projects that I was very interested in.
