Confirmed Cast So Far

I bet it has everything to do with the two to three film split. After the split they re-shot a lot of stuff because they basically had no idea what they were doing. So I'm sure Connolly's original stuff got scrapped and then maybe they had to do ADR and a CGI Dain for the new scenes because of his Parkinson's diagnosis.

Some of the people involved with the films confirmed that they read the Tolkien forums back in the day.  Liv Tyler claimed to have been reduced to tears by comments made about the "Xenarwen" scenes from Helm's Deep that were ultimately cut, at least in part due to the fan backlash.  I kind of doubt that PJ himself spends much time reading the forums, and anyone involved with the production who does so probably just goes to TORn most of the time (like GDT did when he posted there years ago). However, if they visit any additional Tolkien forums looking for Hobbit news, we are likely one of the first sites they find.

I'd be surprised if the marketing/PR people weren't checking in from time to time. It's their job!

I can only imagine what they think of us- probably just dismiss us a bunch of crabbit faced bastards. Which is hugely unfair as thats really just me.

I have a sneaking suspicion I might actually enjoy BO5A as a piece of kitsch pop culture, theres a lot to be said for mindless spectacle of an evening. I am sure Floating Gandalf will make me giggle, gung-ho Leggy will make me facepalm. I bet I don't walk out of this one at least.
