Merp stands for Middle Earth Roleplaying Project. It's a total conversion mod for Skyrim that remakes all of Middle Earth in a map nine times the size of Skyrim's map. Warner Brothers sent the mod a cease and desist letter. And now the Tolkien Estate is suing Warner Brothers for overstepping its bounds.
In a way it's like they sent Warner Brothers a cease and desist. The sweet irony

They are typically Hollywood- they want to control absolutely everything and will use strong arm tactics and legal threats to do so.
Since they took over they have gone for long established busineses that use Tolkien related names or characters. Merp as RA points out. A journalist who doesnt write favourably about them and probably a lot more I havent heard of.
Its control freakery driven by greed it seems under the guise of 'protection of their franchise'.

Yeah, they sent a cease and desist to a non-profit fan mod. They afraid of it, claiming it "would cannibalize" the market. They have more money than God and they're taking legal action against a fan project.
And as it turns out, they don't even have the proper legal rights to even issue a cease and desist. Warner Brothers is nothing but a bully.

I have my beefs with Jackson, but you know I at least have the the choice to see his movies or not - To form my own opinion. I wouldn't try and stop them from being made like what WB is doing against Merp. The movies hold a lot of value for a lot of people, myself included. Merp will likely effect a much smaller demographic, but it will still hold value.
To just snub out the hard work that's been put into this project over the years is despicable.

Yeah pure bullying. Especially of MERP- I mean for a start people have to own Skyrim first. Secondly you can only mod pc skyrim- so that takes out all the console players right there. Thirdly you have to download and install the mod- not difficult but enough to put some folks off.
The actual percent of even Skyrim players who would be playing the MERP mod is negligable compared say to the sales on all formats of any offical film tie-in game.
A pointless act of bullying.

Hopefully the Tolkien Estate wins their lawsuit, WB loses the rights to non-tangible digital media, and the Tolkien Estate allows Merp to exist. I'd been following Merp for a while and have been trying to spread the word to as many people as possible.
Need a really good game like Merp. It was going to be amazing.
Details. Each region and sub-region was going to have its own weapons. Swords from the Westfold are different than the swords in the Eastfold.
Spears. A whole bunch of different races to play as.
Events in the world would be triggered by the dates they happened in the books. There was a bunch of stuff planned and finished prior to the C&D; all on their website and all to be destroyed if Warner Brothers has their way.
I hope they lose the lawsuit. What goes around, comes around.

NZ is really pining its marketing on things like this. They did the same with LOTRs didnt they ? Even gave out "on board" flight packs, eye masks etc. connected with LOTRs.

As far as I remember,Bilbo left in the morning at great speed, as had over laid & had to meet the Dwarves at The Green Dragon.He didnt have time to take even a handkerchief, much less a back pack etc, & were'nt the Trolls dressed ? like men,with jackets etc ? They had to have jackets to have pockets, & thats where the key fell out just before they were turned to stone.

Much as there is alot in here I dont like- Bilbo looks likehe is doing more than just defending himself in that fight with the goblin. And the action shots look like a computer game to me with the camera spinning about all over the shop.
But there are talking trolls and I like the troll voice too (but why not just give them the dialogue in the book instead of something almost like it? Cant you leave even one line alone!? )
but mainly this is my favourite vid so far- and its got nothing to do with the film content in it but the stuff! Oh the wonderful stuff to play with! How I would love to be let loose with all that editing equipment. This side of film I love. All of it, from foley sound to colour grading- I could swill buckie and twiddle knobs all day long!

I've only been able to download 8:20 so far, but the first thing that struck me was that he opened with Radagast and the bunny-sled. There's no way that was a coincidence! That's PJ saying "I read the blogs and forums and I hear all you whiners! "

Then he features the troll scene, featuring the talking trolls, another one of the most discussed topics here and elsewhere. Sure the line has been shortened a bit, but it's still recognizable, and it fits between "a Bur-a hobbit" and "Yes, lots. -- No, none at all." I'm betting Bilbo gets his lines in more or less recognizable form.!

I haven't watched any of the video diaries in a while but that was a ton of fun. I'm looking forward to seeing the video about the premiere, I'm sure that will be fantastic.

The (real) beards on the guys in the beard department were awesome.
