I"m ok with there being only a few woman in the books because they're so dynamic. Also, it leaves room for more hot guys

The detailed breakdown is definitely interesting. The gender picture is even more imbalanced if you look specifically at The Hobbit though. I don't think there's a single female character with dialogue in the whole book.

kind of see why they wan't TaurielEldorion wrote:The detailed breakdown is definitely interesting. The gender picture is even more imbalanced if you look specifically at The Hobbit though. I don't think there's a single female character with dialogue in the whole book.
Re: Lord of the Rings Humour: Parodies, Satires and More
Yeah. While I'm as un-thrilled at Tauriel as everyone else, I really can't blame PJ for wanting to add female characters of some sort. I think the book works fine as it is but I can understand why he and the Coven would want to do things differently for the films. If it were handled with less intrusiveness and cliche I'd be fine with such an addition. (Hopefully Tauriel won't be too intrusive anyway, but they need someone to have ridiculous battle stunt scenes. )
Re: Lord of the Rings Humour: Parodies, Satires and More
have to agree there. I will only like Tauriel if I can with eas just ignore her x)
Re: Lord of the Rings Humour: Parodies, Satires and More
I'll be even happier if she can be edited back out!

Reminds me of The Dwarve City in Moria.

Chris I think they are the heraldric symbols for Luthien Tinuviel, but I could be wrong. The white flower is Niphredil, and the yellow flower is Elanor.

I think you may be right- they are on the cover of the oldest version of the Silmarillion I own which is from the late 70's.

Chris those columns are really similar to Moria, I imagine they would be filled with light when the Dwarven kingdom was at its height.

A golden moment in the film for me is Gandalf lighting up and showing us all those columns and arches.

Re: Lord of the Rings Humour: Parodies, Satires and More
A bit of non-LOTR humor in honor of The Phantom Menace's current re-release (via George Takei's reliably hilarious Facebook page).
If only it had ended this way:

Re: Lord of the Rings Humour: Parodies, Satires and More
I have fond memories of that last one because it was the cover of my first copy of The Hobbit, in a box set along with LOTR that my dad got me when I was about eight.
