Petty's Purist LotR Edits

Plodding on with uploading- getting roughly 10 parts uploaded per night- so by that reckoning all of book2 should be finished by Friday morning (GMT).

There are 62 out of 85 parts to Book2 up already if anyone is downloading or plannig to you can start any time (which might be wise).

Have already started downloading upto part 45 so far.

Looking forward to the weekend.

Good on you Kafria. The thought of you patiently downloading and watching them keeps me going! The next 10 or so will start to go up from midnight (I hit my monthly usage allowance- if I go over they charge me more- but there is no usuage limit imposed between midnight and 7am so I need to wait till then to upload it).

Was thinking Ringdrotten- could you not get a friend to download it for you while you are away and send it to you at the army base?

Meant to respond to this ages ago and forgot! I dont have any viruses and most certainly wouldnt be sending them to people- as I am sure those who have downloaded can testify.
And take some advice from someone who has lost to much important stuff to a sudden pc cessation! Back up- never mind viruses pc's are unstable enough on their own- bung it on a memory stick, a friends pc, anything- but back up your school work.

So is this a new version of your edits petty? Because I might have another crack at downloading it since I've got a new computer!

Started uploading what should be the last batch of book2.

Finished uploading Book 2. So all of Fellowship to watch for the weekened!

Last night I finally got Book 1 successfully downloaded and opened!

It looks great. The transitions are now almost completely invisible which I know was not easy. I noticed a couple of slightly abrupt audio transitions, but only because I knew what to listen for. A casual viewer would never guess this wasn't a professional edit.

I'm still amazed at how coherent a narrative you were able to reassemble from PJ's fragments. I really like having the emphasis back on the plot. But this does have the unintended effect of highlighting the pacing problems.

Tolkien's 1st book unfolds casually, with a growing sense of unease and need for stealth, not haste. PJ's version everything is done at a sprint. For example in the new edit it appears that Gandalf has leisurely passed 17 years and then suddenly rushes off to the library to frantically research the Ring, like a student who has procrastinated on a major research paper till the weekend before it's due.

It's a shame there isn't more travel footage that could inserted to slow the pacing back down, between the ferry and Bree for example. And a more stealthy and creepy intro to the confrontation at Weathertop would add a LOT! But I know you're limited by the material you've been given. Ah well.

But altogether a very nice piece of work. I'll get started downloading Book 2 this week. Thanks for all your work on this!

Thanks for watching David and commenting. Its never going to be perfect (sadly)- but I think the point is made- if they had scripted for such a pace and to follow the books structure it could have worked very well indeed. Casting considerable doubt on the claims made in the commenteries that to do so was impossible or unworkable.

I'm torn. I want to do the downloads, but I never remember how to do it. Can you send me the DVD's perhaps, Petty? That would work.

HD version- wont fit on DVD Orwell- I sent you the link- you lost it- AGAIN?!

Book3 will be starting to be uploaded tonight. It'll will almost certainly take a few nights of uploading to complete.
