About 20 minutes in, good job with the editing so far! Sometimes the cutting seems a bit abrupt, but on the other hand the pacing seems faster without Merry and Pippin fooling around - which is for the best, definitely. Very Happy

Unfortuntely some cuts are going to be abrupt no matter what I try to do to smooth them out- although there more can be done- the opening- up to 3 is company section begining- is a new thing I did for this edit- whereas the rest of the film, more or less I already knew what I was doing and had done earllier versions- I reckon I can smooth the opening out a bit yet.
Glad you are watching- just think right now its posssible that in at least two different parts of the world to which I have never been people are watching the edit- thats kinda weird in a cool way! Cool

4.45 hours in (you were right Petty): Back to Frodo and Sam.

Two comments:

(1) Your interpretation of what needs removing or rearranging is spot on. Supurb job and supurb judgment, Petty. As Baingil suggests, it does seem to be a bit abrupt between bits at times, but that, I see, is imposible to avoid when some things just HAD to go.

(2) There is some excellent directororial stuff amid the story-telling absurdities. Breaks my heart to see such good bits among such stupid bits, but there you go. Seeing the old men and young men hauled into service is truly moving. There are other things too. Pippin geting taken away from Merry is good, though the fiery ball part of an otherwise reasonably good scene is PJ at his worst; so un-needed it brings tears (of disappointed rage!)

I'll take a break and watch the Frodo and Sam scenes a bit later in the day I think.

EDIT: Umm.... Petty, why do you always post while I'm posting? Rude!

Oh, and also I forgot to mention that I like the opening sequence - the recitation of the Ring Poem. Really sets the tone for a more canonical film.

Thanks Orwell- glad you are finding it more palatable now! Yes when I watch it back the overwhelming feeling is of a missed opportunity- in some parts its so close to perfect and then he throws a fireball at someone!! Evil or Very Mad

Glad you liked that Baingil- I know Orwell wasn't too keen, but I think otherwise it has met with general approval (and I like it).

Yes, indeed, can't but agree, and when he finds Elrond's version of it, I'll be able to sleep soundly again. Very Happy

I thought I liked what you did? Shocked Are you talking about the voice-over at the beginning? I think I just would have preferred Elrond's version. Yours is far better than PJ's. (Even if it doesn't exist, it should).

As I rarely remember what I say, and sometimes imagine things so strongly they become reality (it's rumoured), I'll forgive you this time.

{{{{{Tangent: I got this idea for another movie. It will have to be a lot bigger budget than the "cat" thing though, aso we'll have to make that first and then use the profits. By then you'll be needing the challenge of a bigger project anyway}}}}}

It's awesome that you cut the scene of the Last Alliance and Isildur finding the ring (and losing it) into the scene with Gandalf and Frodo talking; here the abruptness of the music changing seems to work in your favor, in my opinion, since the sort of hobbit-ish quietness is being disturbed with all this talk about Sauron and Mordor and Great Rings. Although I wish there was a way to fix the sound in the middle of Isildur's fight with the orcs beside the stream.

Frankly that was a nightmare. If nly I could have had the soundeffects track and the video without Galadriel talking over th etop of most of it I coul have done something good with that section- if PJ had blooming well used Gandalf for the intro voice over would have worked perfect. Damn him to Hades!!

Well and good, Baingil (and I do agree with you) but don't talk when I'm talking, if you don't mind, it's quite rude (and what I'd expect of Petty, not a nice young lady like you).

I do remember. I changed my mind since. I decided it was good - failing having Gandalf say it to Frodo, or, alternatively, having Elrond's version.
