Re: More Hobbit pictures [2] SPOILER THREAD
Apparently Warner Bros. released a new version of "The Scroll" for the first film that ends much earlier than the original version from the two film project did. Mrs Figg's new image comes from that.

Personally I think that the Eagles' Eyrie is way too early to end the film. In the book to that point, you had the trolls, Rivendell, Goblin-Town, Gollum, and then the final escape from the goblins and wargs. That's it. No Beorn, no Mirkwood, no glimpses of Lake-town or the Lonely Mountain unless it's in scenes entirely separate from the Company. I get that a lot of things will be expanded and added in, but Gandalf doesn't even leave the Company until after they see Beorn so how much White Council stuff could they use by that point?
I'd like to think that PJ knows what he's doing but I am at an utter loss as to how he will stretch out this material into a feature length film, even if we assume there will be copious amounts of flashbacks and other expository scenes.

Re: More Hobbit pictures [2] SPOILER THREAD
I have no doubt that there will be a prologue of some sort, but the one to LOTR wasn't more than 10 minutes even in the Extended Edition. I'm sure we'll have other flashbacks to Dwarven history and the like, perhaps during the party as they arrive. And of course there will be scenes with the older Bilbo and Frodo as the framing device. However, in my opinion there's a limit to how long you can drag out your backstory and exposition before most audiences will want the story to just begin already.
Re: More Hobbit pictures [2] SPOILER THREAD
I agree, Eldorion. The artificial slow pace is going to be felt.
I think I read somewhere here that Jackson may include the Barrow Wights scene that was omitted in Fellowship. Does anyone know about that?

I've heard the same thing, RA, but I think it's just speculation at this point. Some people think it has something to do with the Ringwraith tombs which IIRC we did get confirmation of.

Re: More Hobbit pictures [2] SPOILER THREAD
eeeeek! more Kili! nice.
I think they are going to make use of that Dale set and give us lots of backstory, maybe of each individual Dwarf, as I read somewhere they each have a backstory, yawn, anyway there is all that ,and then the desolation of Smaug backstory, and then the backstory of the feud with the orcs/goblins. and then there is the backstory with the Necromancer/WC, I reckon the whole first film will be set in the 'past'.
and fiiiiiiinnnaaaaallllyyy, they start in the 'present' with Bilbos birthday celebrations, Bilbo telling the tale of Smaug, and wibbly wobbly they go back in the 'past' AGAIN, to tell Bilbos story, phew, we need The Doctor to sort this one out.

Ive been keeping an eye on this thread recently and whilst all these pics are all very nice, full of stubbly handsome fellows with big weapons, can someone tell me when we are going to see the dwarves?

Norc-swooning... do they swoon me? is that good?
All the Kili-fainting is technically known as a swoon. I reserve judgement on whether it's good or not, but it's damn entertaining.

I didnt like the original, the lower one, its too yellow, so I tarted it up a bit and tried to make his eyes stand out more.

Re: More Hobbit pictures [2] SPOILER THREAD
I cant take any credit for this discovery as it was found out over on Torn by DanielLB.
This poster has so far been my favourite of TH posters to emerge so far- it was done for comic-con.
And the reason I like it more than the others is that the countryside looks right to me, that looks like the landscape I imagined.
Turns out there is a very good reason for this- it is England not NZ (complete with railyway bridge if you look closely)
The article explaining it can be found here-
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/the-northerner/2012/sep/13/hobbit-gandalf-tolkien-alnwick-northumberland?newsfeed=true
Heres a pic from the film of the actual film Shire-
As you can see the shape of the land, the type of trees and grasses (there is an obvious line in the poster where the NZ grass ends and the english grass starts) and the lighting is all different from NZ- the poster only makes me wish all the more they had shot the Shire stuff in England.
