Doctor Who [3] - Page 6 Empty Re: Doctor Who [3]

Post by Kafria Wed Aug 15, 2012 10:47 pm

Mrs Figg wrote:I disagree, I think most people dislike Fanny Price in Mansfield Park the most. She is a passive prig of epic proportions. I think Anne in Persuasion is a wonderful character, and is mostly 'guilty' of loyalty to a family friend over following her heart. I dont see Anne as passive really, more an innocent who is swayed by a parent figure, and thats pretty reasonable seeing as her father was a vain fool.

Possibly, I'd forgotten about Fanny Price...although I do see a lot of value to her.

Back to Anne and Rory.. His loyalty (to Amy), compassion for all those in need they come across and his steady and unfailing love are parallels I see between them. I'm curious... is it just that you like your man a little more rough and tough, is he just a little too quiet and considered? (edward ferrar or willoughby if you will)

I must admit, I'm intrigued, It is always fascinating the way as humans we see the same actions in the same people and can interpret tham in so many different ways. Smile

willoughby was a spineless and shallow man, I certainly dont think he has many redeeming features. Its not that I dont like quiet loyalty, like that of Colonel Brandon and Edward Ferrars, but I just find Rory a bit of a moaner, I dont find him very masculine or fascinating. I would go for Mr Rochester from Jane Eyre, he's sarcastic and aloof and what he wants he gets, he would probably keep me up in the attic though. Laughing

I was planning to be out of town then, but my experience with these things is that NY is such a big market you have to pounce quick and still be lucky to get one.

Out of town when Who is in town- are you mad? Mad

Moffat at the press conference talking about a post Ponds Who-

'Writer Steven, who is also the brains behind BBC1 hit Sherlock, admitted it would be difficult to imagine the programme without Amy and Arthur, who have become “part of the landscape for me”.
He said: “It was just traumatic to consider a future without them.
Amy is everything I admired, and sometimes feared, about strong, clever, reckless women and Rory is the man I’d like to be — so strong that he never has to show it.”- the Sun

Of the opening episode the Sun said of it-

'a jaw-dropping 45 minutes of action-packed excitement that just bounds along....full of scary moments, great gags and tear-jerking scenes. It’s a worthy series opener.'

I always make my mind up when I watch- but its nice to get a general feel for how the press are reacting to it- in this case it ranges from very positive to high praise. I'm still waiting to read bad word about it.
But if I dont like it I will certainly be on here to say so!

However you may wish to avoid the NotP special on the 1st as it will be carrying an episode review by a guest critic- (ok me)

When will there be a female Dr Who? I think it's about time! Though I still expect her to have an attractive female companion.

And maybe Riversong can become the new Doctor. (Is that her secret btw??? Suspect )

Oh yes, I like Amy Pond. I've been watching a bit of NuWho, you see! Very Happy

the Pirate episode is in the 11th Doctor Matt Smith episodes I think Orwell, If memory serves me right. Donna is the assistant after Rose and Martha for Tennant the 10th Doctor. You need to start at the beginning and work your way through it starting with the 9th Doctor which is the start of NuWho, otherwise you cant compare the two wildly differing styles between 9/10th Doctors and the 11th Doctor who is written by Moffat. My personal opinion is that Dr Who ended for me once Moffat and Smith took over, I just dont connect with it for whatever weird reason, but its just personal taste, its just me that doesnt get it, shame though because I really wanted to like it. I am sure you will, especially the short skirts.Rolling Eyes

cheers Orwell welcome back to the Who.
The pirate episode is the weakest of that series in my view - although I have to say I actually enjoyed it more when I recently wathed the series back, but they may only be because I only watched it twice around the tranmission time and never bothered again since (same as the dalek one in series 5 which I also think is weak for that series quality).

Mrs Figg you have the wonderful Fires of Pompey up next. Followed by the Planet of the Ood.
Do you need me to hunt down links?

And I am so chuffed you like Donna- sadly I think some of the episodes in her run are poor but she is brilliant throughout despite that.

Donna is a wonderful vivid character, I cant wait to see the Pompeii episode, if you could find it that would be great Petty. I find her so funny, I love when she goes OMG when she sees him through the window., that made me laugh that did. I love her sweet grandpa and grouchy judgemental mum. Its so warm and funny, brilliant.
