Re: Doctor Who [3]
Short skirts? Is that what you said, Mrs Figg? Sounds gratuitous to say the least. I better investigate...

Oh I wouldn't be interested in anything of that nature, Mrs Figg --- but where exactly do I find that - for purely academic reasons...

Re: Doctor Who [3]
Now Orwell, you shouldnt eves drop and misconstrue for comedic effect- its rude!
On mine Mrs Figg there is a little box just to the right of the long play bit and next to the little long thing with slider you can move up and down.
New 20 second teaser trailer for Asylum of the Daleks!
And the New York Premiere tickets sold out in twenty minutes!

Sorry not at home at mo to get the links- no idea why you dont have a fullscreen box on the player- should be one there- but have you tried zooming the screen manually with control + that might help.

Re: Doctor Who [3]
Thats what I meant when I said I thought she had a bigger impact on the Doctors actions than Rose had.
Its worth noting though that had she not been there he would just have left.

Re: Doctor Who [3]
- Spoiler:
- I think by that stage he was bitter because he had lost Rose and Martha had been an unwelcome complication. you can see he is angry at Donna for forcing him to feel human emotions again, I think he had cut them off to save himself from pain, I think he is kind of angry with humans for making him have painful feelings. he wants to keep a distance from them but yet he knows he needs them which makes him back away from emotion, its a push/pull moment for him.. I dont think he would have left the family if Rose had been there as he was in a happy place with her. The Doctor seems to have temporarily become angry at himself and ruthless behind all his joviality. Donna is just getting him back on track, forcing him to feel again, I think he is still heartbroken and really lonely at thiis time. Donna is appalled that he can sacrifice 'children' alien children, so ruthlessly, in the first episode together he pours the water down the hole in the earth killing all the little aliens, and then she wonders if he will kill all the adipose 'children', she finally puts her foot down and forces him to save the family but they are human so its probably an easier decision.
cant wait to see the next episode, what is it the Oods? If you have a link that would be great, love watching Donna bossing him around. he he!

I think all these episodes are available on the link I gave a few pages back.*
You are looking for series 4 "Planet of the Ood" next.

You are looking for series 4 "Planet of the Ood" next.
- Spoiler:
- Im not sure its just recent events- the ruthless alien is who the Doctor is most of the time, thats him normal (im not sure he was that nice a person to start with, in the very first Who story ever he kidnaps two people and later is about to smash in a wounded mans head with a large rock so they wont be slowed down by him)- the time he spends with humans is when he gets a moral check- Time Lord morality is a bit, lacking, lets say.
Donna is not the first or last companion to pull the Doctor up when he doesnt even seem aware he had crossed a line. But she is one of the best at it.
The Doctor that left the Pompey family behind, the Doctor that killed all the alien spider babies and the Doctor that slammed the door shut on old Amy are all the same ruthless man.
He really is that cold as a base level- but being with humans gives him a perspective he otherwise lacks- he uses them to judge his own actions by.
After this series when he is on his own for a bit, especially the Water of Mars we see just how far off base he can go.
The great thing about Donna for me (and something she shares in common with Rory) is she is not in awe or in love with the Doctor and will tell him when he is beyond the pale or gone to far in very direct terms.

Re: Doctor Who [3]
- Spoiler:
- I dont remember further back than Eccleston so I dont know about his past ruthlessness, but I found him to be ruthless where aliens are concerned, those that threaten earth anyway, but less so with humans, I think he generally cares about humans and tries to save them when he can, its like his reason for being, saving the world. otherwise why put himself at risk of death every 5 minutes if he doesnt care?. He seems colder with Donna because of his emotional baggage after losing Rose.

Re: Doctor Who [3]
- Spoiler:
- Well in the past it was less humancentric- something Moffat has returned to more- RTD era stuff is very earth concerned.
The Doctor cares for humans, thats true, but in the past he has equally put his life and others on the line for alien species.
In the 11th Hour he informs the attraxi that he has 'put a lot of work' into Earth as his explanation.
In the 4th Doctor story The Ark in Space he makes this speech about humans-
Humans impress him, partly because they are the opposite of Time Lords- who are to afraid to intervene or interfere- humans just charge in there for right or wrong.
Also I think he admires us because he can see that base humans are violent, manipulative and selfish- and yet somehow collectively we strive to rise above this and reach for the stars.
The problem for him is a Time Lord one- they can see what is, what could be and what has to be all at the same time. He knows doing the right thing sometimes means a bad result and vice versa.
Waters of Mars is a good example of this.
10 calls this way of looking at time the 'Burden of the Time Lords'.
Its also worth remebering 11's words to Amy "I'm not a hero. I really am just a mad man with a box."
edit add- also not sure how much of it is loss of Rose- by companion standards she does alright- she is still alive somewhere! He has lost companions before, and a lot more terminally than Rose. I think Rose plus all the past pain of loss, not forgetting his own entire race and even the guilt of wiping out the Daleks, is getting close to the straw that breaks the camels back- but she is not what actually breaks him finally.
more edit add!- just found this, Verity Lambert (the original producer of Who) talks about the character of the Doctor as she saw it when it came to trying to cast the part.

Re: Doctor Who [3]
- Spoiler:
- I think the Rose thing just crept up on him unawares, he seemed to have a lot of fun with her as a mate, but it was all unspoken stuff, I dont think he realized the full impact until he lost her. It was never a romantic relationship in the traditional sense, but he was jealous of Jack. I think he was really worried about Donna falling for him at the beginning, he even spelled it out for her when she had all her bags packed and ready to follow him, but she seems to want adventure more than anything and definately doesnt fancy him nor he her. I like that Donna and the Doctor are friends in the true sense, and that she can be brutally honest with him.

Re: Doctor Who [3]
On the link I gave you last click on the box that says series 4 and you will get a full episode list for that series in order from bottom to top.
Sadly from here till Silence in the library are generally considered not that great- Donna and the Doctor remain brilliant but the stories are pretty poor.

Re: Doctor Who [3]
More promo shots for Asylum of the Daleks.
And some bad news- looks like it wont air on the 1st Sept after all!
The BBC have apparently not officially announced it and it hasnt appeared in the listings for the week of the 1st.
BBC America let slip the sept 1st date but have now removed it from their promo stuff- all a bit puzzling.
The 8th is now the favourite.
Bloody BBC- just show the bloody thing already!!!! At the rate they are releasing promo shots from it we will have seen the whole episode shot by shot before it actually gets to air!

Petty do you have by any chance another link for series 4? that other one was great for Partners in Crime and Ood, but its really not happening at the mo, its not starting, maybe its the fact that its as hot as the surface of Venus here at the minute and the connection is crap. Do you have the link for that Romanian site you used ages ago? I am trying to find The Poison Sky onwards.
