Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
There's a new hobbit trivia game on Facebook. I took it to see what is considered "hobbit mythology." Some of it was actually hobbit related, but there were a lot of questions about where Thror died and who he was. I'm almost positive now that the entire history of Thorin and his people will be in the film and it will be an important part of it. Hooray

That was really well done. I like how they matched up the shots and even the lip movements. It must have taken forever to edit.
EDIT: reposting for the new page.

Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures jointly announced today that the final film in Peter Jackson's trilogy adaptation of the enduringly popular masterpiece "The Hobbit," by J.R.R. Tolkien, now titled The Hobbit: There and Back Again, will be released worldwide on July 18, 2014. All three films in the trilogy are productions of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures.
The Studios also announced the title of the second installment in the franchise, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which will be released on December 13, 2013. The first film in the trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, opens this holiday season, on December 14, 2012. Shot in 3D 48 frames-per-second, the trilogy of films will be released in High Frame Rate (HFR) 3D, other 3D formats, IMAX and 2D.

Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
Thanks for the link, Chris! I don't even see that on TORn yet. Good eye.
I thought that they might scrap the "There and Back Again" title altogether but apparently they haven't. I think it's safe to say that Smaug will be in the second film now, given that his name is in the title. People would wonder where he is if they didn't show him. I'm still curious to know if they changed the breaking point for the first movie though.
I'm not surprised at the release date for the third film given that we knew it would be in the summer. Warner Bros. has staked a claim to the mid-July weekend in recent years, using it for tentpole blockbusters including the last few Harry Potter and Batman movies. They also gave that weekend to Chris Nolan's Inception in 2010 and have Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim lined up for it next year. It makes sense that they'd give the summer chapter of their biggest remaining franchise that spot as well.
Also, it means that we are now less than two years away from seeing the end of the entire Hobbit Trilogy, even though the first one is still a few months out. I look forward to continuing to pick through every bit of news we receive.

Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
One other thing I noticed: we're still waiting for the final word on the availability of the films in 48fps but I note that the press release seems to imply that the film will be available in 48fps 3D but not 48fps 2D. I wonder if that was a slip-up or if I'm reading too much into their grammar since I believe PJ has said the opposite before.

Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
Interesting news about the schedule conflict with the sequel to X-Men: First Class. I imagine that either Fox or WB will blink and change the date. If I had to guess I'd say probably Fox, since X-Men isn't as strong of a brand and WB has staked a claim on that weekend in recent years. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.
Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
turns out that character list for Games Workshop miniatures which included zombie Azog was a hoax. so thats ok then.
