Bree is better (if one must go travelling). Yes, it's full of our queer cousins, but it is simply (and sensibly) laid out too. User friendly, I'd say. (Though that Moderator lass --- Julia was it? --- well, you know.... )

According to PJ very little of Guillermo del Toro's original visual design for The Hobbit remains in the version of the films that were actually made.

[Guillermo] had designed a lot of the movie . . . I looked at his designs when he took over and a lot of his designs are very Guillermo . . . it was very much stuff that you would recognize from Pan's Labyrinth or Hellboy. It was his artistic vision and I couldn't make that movie. I looked at his designs and I said the only person who can make a Guillermo Del Toro movie is Guillermo. It shouldn't be me. I can't put my head into somebody else's idea — I have to generate it from the beginning. So really I redesigned the film pretty much. Some of Guillermo's DNA is in there — there were some things he did that I thought were pretty cool and I've taken bits of pieces of his stuff — kind of altering it and changing it as I saw it. But the film was largely redesigned.

Given what we heard about GDT's design ideas I'm actually pretty glad to hear this, though it could have been guessed a while ago. I do hope that the non-hyena Wargs that GDT mentioned will remain, though.

I would have thought that PJ would have wanted a clean slate anyway, its normal to want your own vision, so would I. Artists are very touchy about other people interferring with that vision, and he wanted all the credit to go to him rightly.

The films' official Facebook page has a new "The Hobbit Trivia Quiz" that I took out of boredom. It's pretty basic stuff for the most part but when question took me off guard.



I guess it makes sense that the quiz wouldn't be for the books but in my opinion it's not really fair to ask questions about the events of a movie that hasn't come out yet. It's possible some unpaid intern just made this up but Radagast's home being attacked sounds like something PJ would add. I just hope it isn't by giant rabbits.

I think he has a photoshop artifact on his shoulder. They're the going thing, you can pick them up all up and down Hollywood and Madison avenue.

Well, I guess having Radagast's home attacked by giant spiders would make the most sense. Rhosgobel is close to Dol Guldur. It sounds kind of dumb. But then again, I am a little jaded with the White Council stuff at this point. So I don't know how objective I'm being.

My problem with Evangeline Lily is that she looks too "Hollywood", if you know what I mean. If they've altered her appearance to where she's difficult to recognize, I think it's good. I don't want Evangeline Lily playing a character to be in the movie. I'd rather just have Tauriel. (can't believe I just said that).

The thing that's most troubling about that quiz question is that attacks by all these creatures but the bunny attack already occur in the book in some form.

Trolls(giants) at the Trollshaws, wargs at the fir trees, and giant spiders in Mirkwood.

If it's to be giant spiders attacking at Radagast's house, then that probably means they've rewritten the Mirkwood part into something completely different. There was a photo a while back of Bilbo standing defensively with cobwebs and ruined stairs in the background... Will PJ have the company meet Radagast in Mirkwood perhaps?

I'm also still troubled by the image of the 13 marching across what appears to be the bridge to Thranduil's palace of their own free will.

I'm afraid this whole part of the story has been extensively rewritten to include LotR elves rather than Hobbit elves, and while he was at it, why not throw in a few extras wizards and magic bunnies, right?

At this point Dave, I am going to enjoy watching Pettys crabbitmeter blow a gasket. It will probably light up the night sky from afar. The Fyordlandians will think its the Aurora Borealis.

Totally agree about the Hollywood thing R.A. I have been saying that for months.
