Strangely enough I went into FotR full of high expectations, and worse, the certain belief they would be met.
It was a director I had spent many years of my youth telling anyone who woud listen that he was a genius. I even (Eru forgive me) thought Boyen could write a bit (I had seen the film they did based on the two Australian school grils that committed a murder and thought it excellent) and assurances were ringing in my ears it was Tolkien to the core with ommissions only where necessary for adapting- they had got two of my favourite Tolkien artists to design the look- they even cast Ian Holm who I loved in the BBC radio production, and Sir Ian and Sean Bean seemed inspired casting (those two I still think that, despite some gripes with the portrayals, Gandalf in particular)- no I went in all innocence and full of expetactions of sheer unadultrated joy for the next 3 hours.
That'll teach me to let my crabbit guard down.

The Hobbit Film: A bit of a Unexpected Journey though not the one we thought it would be as that mainly sits in some other bits of books and some is just made up.

This raises a few questions- Gandalf leaves them before they enter Mirkwood, they are on their own with the magic stream and spiders. And even assuming it is on the edge of Mirkwood are they going to bring Shadowfax back into it I wonder- a horse he does not get in the book until his escape from Orthanc. And answers to what at this point? This is just after Bilbo gets the Ring and the Beorn stuff, I hope its not connected to the Ring in any way.

I checked and Gandalf is riding a brown horse in the beginning of FOTR, so definitely no Shadowfax there. I really hope they keep that in mind for The Hobbit, though I suppose it's not beyond the realm of possibility that they come up with some convoluted explanation. It's strange; most of the stuff from the AICN report didn't really surprise me, but I'd just always assumed that Gandalf would depart from the Company before Mirkwood, like in the book, so that he could get to the White Council. I wonder if the Company is going to be waylaid by agents of Sauron in Mirkwood rather than 'unaffiliated' monsters, hence Gandalf's need to go for answers. Also, if the White Council is in Rivendell (IIRC someone said or we surmised that was going to happen), I wonder if it will take place when the Company first arrives there, or if Gandalf will have to backtrack. Unfortunately I'm beginning to suspect the former.

If the WC is meeting in Rivendell at the start of the journey, it would have meant that Gandalf had known at the start of the journey that he was needed at the meeting. I think its more likely he gets a message while they are staying at Beorns house and doubles back before they get to Mirkwood.

I didn't go into CinemaCon expecting to write anything less than great things about The Hobbit, but the very aesthetic chosen by Peter Jackson has made me very nervous about this film. It just looked ... cheap, like a videotaped or live TV version of Lord of the Rings and not the epic return to Tolkien that we have all so long been waiting for. I still have hope for The Hobbit, but I'd be lying if I didn't say my expectations for the film have now been greatly diminished.

Hitler- what you get when you have crabbit but no buckie.
No buckie means he never reached the moment, the defining moment of 'buckie realisation'- which every Scot reaches eventually- it comes when you are so drunk you suddently realise how drunk you are and then you utter the immortal words, the sign of 'buckie realisation' and enlightment.
You say in a moment of magnificiant universal understanding, "I'm just talking a load of pish here amn't I?"

This is why Scots don't invade other countries, we just party and drink them dry.
Think what a better place the world would be if only Hitler had reached the enlightment only buckie can bring to life.

Interviews and the panel is all we got Lorient- the clips havent appeared yet. This thread has all the info from comic-con in it (somewhere) but I warn you now, its bad for the crabbit.

The Comic-Con discussion starts on page five and includes a couple of videos of the panel but the preview footage doesn't seem to have made it online. It seems that PJ and/or the Warner Bros. marketing people want to keep things under wraps until the second trailer.
